Create your own rule: "No ____ after ____."

No shorts that can double as underwear - I see this at the Y all the time and it irks me! One can actually see the bottom of the bumm cheeks when people wear these types of shorts - NOT fab. ;0

No backpacks after college or grad school.

Yes, I know there are arguably stylish ones out there, but I'm talking about the big canvas Jansport variety that students lug their textbooks around in. You don't need to lug your life around in these once you've put your textbooks away, and it's really not good for your back anyway. This is especially annoying on crowded public transportation, where people take up valuable aisle space wearing these huge, overstuffed backpacks on their backs. Men seem to be especially guilty of this one, and it makes me cringe to see them in nice business suits with big backpacks slung over their shoulders.

Of course, I can also make an exception for hikers and people who are actually "backpacking" when they travel.

For men:

No baseball caps after 15 unless you are at a game. Definitely not backwards unless you are an established hip hop superstar. No tshirts after 17. No athletic shoes after an exercise regimen.

For women:

No flipflops after being on the beach or poolside. No Crocs after 2 (men and women). I guess the others have already been covered.

Frances, I am with you on the backpack thing. I hate it when I'm on an already crowded train and some dope with a huge overstuffed backpack squeezes on. Then every time he (it's usually a man) turns, he manages to whack someone in the face with it, and somehow remains completely oblivious to how rude/inconsiderate he is being, and continues to repeat the offensive behavior...

Personally, I could probably use rules of the opposite kind...like (I realized this belatedly from going through the closet of my old room in my parent's house):

No wearing Chico's before age 18.
