cream or white coats

I see this on a lot of lists, and my question is - how do you keep them clean??

I owned a beautiful cream wool 3/4 A-line coat a few years ago, and the very first time I wore it, I sat in something greasy that the dry-cleaner couldn't remove.

Next-closest was a coat in a gorgeous shade of pink... I adored that coat... and wore it every day for a season. By the end of the season, the sleeves were dingy. Again, the dry-cleaner couldn't revive the coat. (My DD15 ended up wearing it often the following season - she didn't care about the dingy sleeves).

Do you replace your cream/white coats every season? Or am I just too hard on my coats?

I have a cream trench style (no belt, just buttons) coat. I don't know what the outer layer is made of, but it's almost like a thick raincoat. If I get something on it, it easily comes off with a washcloth and gentle soap.

I think cream trenches are yummy and would love to have one a la Tanya and Angie. I'm interested to know how they keep them clean.

I am yet to wear my new cream trench (it just arrived on Monday, and it's hot here), but I'd love to know how Angie takes care of hers.

I had a cream down parka for a few years and it would get dirty so fast, I had to wash it almost every two weeks. Sometimes I wouldn't have time to do that that and absolutely hated walking around with black stuff around the sleeve edges Hope the trench does not get dirty as fast...

White and cream coats are not practical. But no less practical than anything light coloured. I think they’re worth the extra laundry effort. ( I actually find black wool coats even less practical).

I’m perfectly happy to launder and take things to the cleaners as much as possible. I find it saves time and I’m prepared to spend the money. When my cream coats and jackets are in action, they go to the cleaners about every fortnight. I traveled with my new trench and Paris is a very dirty city. I suppose I’m a little careful. I don’t normally spill things and I don’t wear make-up so I never have stains like that. The sleeves get grubby first, but not too bad. I’m an urbanite who walks her dogs in a cream trench. I also wear cream shoes all the time. It can be done!

Carry tide-to-go and hang your cream coat inside out when you take it off anywhere but home.

Yeah, the makeup thing is a problem for me. I don't wear gobs of foundation, but I rarely go without some foundation on.

I do have a cream handbag and you're right - I am simply ultra, ultra careful about it!!! I sit it on my lap in restaurants and never let it touch the ground. It probably needs a cleaning about now, but it's still looking pretty good.

Also I have this coat that is black and cream tweed, from AT... and I had it dry-cleaned beforing storing two seasons ago (I do not store in the plastic bags). When I took it out of storage last season, the cream had turned yellow. Very odd, and quite a disappointment, because it was a gorgeous coat until it turned yellow. I don't know if it was the dry cleaning or just something about the fabric.

I could see how a cream trench might work, if the material is the sort that can be washed off with a wet cloth. Wool... I dunno. Maybe it's not for me!
