So I don’t wear a lot of skirts. I used to, back in the early days of my career. But as skirt lengths got shorter and it seemed tighter in the 90s, I pretty much broken up with them. But now it seems skirts are getting longer, and fuller….which brings me to the post. Earlier this year I was looking for a midi length denim skirt and in my googling I came across this one from a small brand called Classic Six. I loved it, it reminded me of a skirt I had and loved in Jr High. But really it wasn’t what I was looking for…moved on…but it stayed with me…and so I decided to at least give it a try
so, here’s my attempts at styling it…and if I’m honest the tall boots versions are very reminiscent of how I might have worn it in 7th grade…so am I just chasing an old love, or does this work?

This skirt is what I would call a ‘timeless classic’ that can serve multiple purposes. With ladylike sling backs and a sparkly top - you have a pm party outfit, with stompy boots and a slouchy sweater you’ve got a contemporary street style look. In summer, sneakers, a graphic T and jean jacket. Add a blazer jacket, silk tank, and pumps or slim boots and you are ready for business. If you want to get super cutting edge, wear it over pants! 4/5 and 11 are my favourite versions. I’m into the juxtaposition of refined and chunky atm.

You’ve already demonstrated its versatility with your set of photos. I have a similar kind of skirt in red that I’ve put through some interesting style paces!

Love this skirt ... Works perfectly with your style. If I'm honest I don't love it with the chunkier boots but that might just be me ... And I can't quite articulate why, it just seems a bit too contradictory maybe? But the sneakers, loafers and refined boots look great to me eye as do the assortment of tops you're paired it with. Great find!

I like it! But then, knife- pleated midi skirt is my main dressy or casual- skirt uniform.

I’d try to bring your tops up higher, to shorten top vs bottom proportions.
Not as fond of the semi- tuck here.
I use shorter boxier tops or tuck in a relatively thin or drapier top and sometimes pull it out a bit all around to create illusion of untucked top sitting at high hip level. Or sometimes longer thicker hi- low sweater if not too overwhelming.

I love the skirt!

I would probably make outfits similar to those Carla suggests. Those (and the stock photo) all showcase a bit of skin, which can help prevent a certain heaviness or drag-down effect of a longer skirt, when temperatures allow -- but I wear my long knife pleated skirt with boots, too (as you show here).

Helena I don’t love the chunkier black boot with this skirt either, it felt bottom heavy, #13 with the black sweater was my attempt to balance that. But does the slim kitten heel work or does that version feel “dated”.

Unfrumped these are generally the shortest tops I have…do you think that they don’t work? I like the skirt, but not enough to invest in new tops.

I agree with PPs. I think the skirt is a classic that works really well with all kinds of outfits and shoes. The only version I did NOT like was with the chunkier black boots; the whole thing was just a little bottom-heavy. But I love it with the other shoes!

I love the skirt--the color is beautiful and it looks really versatile! I like all of the footwear you've paired it with, including the chunkier black boots. My two cents re. styling it with chunkier boots is to go more oversized/layered on the top, to complement the boots (the slim-fitting cardigans you've got on are more classic, to my eye, and so paired with the classic skirt, the boots seem like the outlier). Yes agree with the above,modern classic.Like it best when we can see that you have a waist so either top tucked/half tucked,slim fitting top or more cropped top.l think it’s important to define your shape.

I think your quarter - zip type top evokes some of them inspo pics. But also would try some full tucks as a more waist- defining or giving the 1/3-2/3 split in proportions. Like your LS T tucked & bloused & sleeves pushed up, or a merino top the same, or the quarter- neck tucked in, if it’s not too bunchy. You probably have other tops that I would wear with this skirt, but maybe you haven’t tried them out.

My heart went boom at #6 - I love the horizontal stripe with the vertical pleat, and the more delicate boots are perfect. I think with that length of skirt it is good to highlight your ankles.

and Jonsey, yes of course chunky boots need chunky sweater! I’ve got some ideas percolating, and will try a couple more things tomorrow. But overall it’s nice to know that that overall it not feeling dated or like I’m reliving my past, just need a few tweaks to make it less of a one trick pony.

I like this a lot, and I really like Jonesy's ideas about the chunky sweater! (I am taking notes.)

My personal fave of the outfits you have posted is the one with the converse -- kind of a cheeky version of a vintage (like, REALLY vintage) tennis outfit.

But I concur with Runcarla that there are lots of different things this skirt could do!

Ooh, so fab. I adore this with the chunky black boots and the kitten heel boot especially. I love how it can look sporty, cool and preppy just by changing the top and footwear. I can see this being a work horse. You're inspiring me to wear my skirts! LOVE!!

#6 is my favourite, I prefer this skirt with more refined footwear, but also like Jonesy’s suggestions for styling with the chunky footwear.

I like it with the refined boots as a classic look for work. And I love the chunky boots for a more casual, on-the-go look. I agree with Jonesy that chunky boots need a chunky sweater!

Numbers 3 and 12 look like the best proportions to me, but I haven’t done a tuck in decades, so…
The more refined boots look very good with it.

The refined boots in #6,7&8 are classic, and I’d also wear this with a thin layer base or blouse that’s tucked and keep the cardigan open.
I agree that the chunky boots or sneakers would work best with a longer chunkier sweater or cardigan just to balance it out more as Jonesy pics demonstrate.

I’m a fan of the chunky boots! I’d say #4 with the striped sweater is my favorite. Something about it just works to my eye. I also like the lighter tops with the more streamlined boots. Great skirt.

Ok a few more ….I’m sure now that this skirt will not be orphaned, there are definitely somethings I like more than others, but overall I’m finding a lot of different ways to wear thus
Chunky sweater with chunky boots…better, but overall the chunky boots are my least favorite with this skirt.

Tried different black boots and shorter sweaters…i like this skirt a lot of the more equestrian black boots, and with the shorter sweaters.

I like the tie-dye blue sweater and the checkered sweater pairing the best ( #3 and #8 ) - but all outfits are interesting! Fun skirt with some styling challenges .

#3, 4 and 8 look good, they’d certainly all work with your refined heel boots too. Funny enough the thick, longer cable sweater doesn’t work, looks rather matronly.

I ADORE this skirt. I want one. It looks fab with the sneakers and the chunkier boots. You could wear long underwear with it and a tall boot and no one would be the wiser. It looks fantastic with all of the sweaters you have chosen, though I'm partial to #1 and #11. Well done!

You should wear skirts more often! I think I have already told you.
This skirt is beautiful, super versatile and you look fab in it. I find it nice with all the shoes. I particularly love the outfits of the first round.
