La D- No, he invented the SuperFocus lenses I linked to above. Better than bifocals because the entire area stays in focus. Also, no, you can't really get bifocal contacts - you can do monovision, which means one contact is corrected for distance and one is for reading. It doesn't work for everyone, especially if you can't wear contacts.
I had a friend ask if LASIK would fix things, and no. LASIK adjusts the curvature of your eye. Macular degeneration is a separate issue.
