I have grays. I need bifocals. Just yesterday I was 23! When did I get so old?!

Soon I will be looking styling in my Superfocals. I HOPE.

Ok. so how cool is that that you use the adjustment to fine tune the focal length. Does it physically squeeze the glass and change the curvature of the lens to adjust the focal distance (hence they have to be round)? I esp like the mens model. Your dad invented it? WOW!

Wait... what.... you dad invented bifocals?? I'm having a six-steps-Kevin-Bacon moment here...

My eye doctor keeps making smug remarks about my age and that I'm headed that way too... good thing I like him, and his super-nice staff, or I'd give him what-for But so far, bifocals haven't appeared on my event horizon. Not yet, anyway.

But if you gotta have 'em, at least there are cute options. And you can get bifocals in contact lens form, right?

Very interesting concept that is new to me. Good to know. I currently wear monovision contact lens in lieu of bifocals, but know it's not for everyone.

Sarah A- if you Google Superfocus theres a video that shows how it works: there's an adjustment membrane separate from the lens. It is definitely cool!

La D- No, he invented the SuperFocus lenses I linked to above. Better than bifocals because the entire area stays in focus. Also, no, you can't really get bifocal contacts - you can do monovision, which means one contact is corrected for distance and one is for reading. It doesn't work for everyone, especially if you can't wear contacts.

I had a friend ask if LASIK would fix things, and no. LASIK adjusts the curvature of your eye. Macular degeneration is a separate issue.

Welcome to the world of middle aged eyes I was super insulted in my early forties when my (former!) eye doctor said my next pair of glasses would need multifocal. I switched eye doctors (seriously - he was rude and arrogant about it!) and managed to hold off for TEN years

I DID successfully get rid of most reading glasses when I found multifocal contacts (RPG) that worked for me. Not those top/bottom ones, but the inner circle/outer ring ones I have been v.e.r.y happy to not be dependent on readers. I still use them, but I can do 90% of what I need without them.

That said, I'm still checking out those Superfocals (SO cute to see how much of your dad I can see in you ;-)). It's not like my eyes are going to get less dependent on readers!!

I am just saying this is what pushed me into having laser eye surgery. I have been wearing glasses for near sightedness since the age of 8 and now I wear drugstore reading glasses and that is it for the cost of two pairs of multifocals. And this despite a terror of such a thing ever since I saw Clockwork Orange.
