Vicki's post about going to Budapest reminded me of a sentimental closet item.
My own and only piece of couture is a iridescent sleeveless silk top and long skirt from this Hungarian designer.
I was visiting Budapest with a friend about six years ago. I read about the shop in a guide book. Her stuff was beautiful and she was even having a sale when I visited her studio. Nothing fit me though. I was about 12-14 at time. She offered to make me an outfit and quoted me a price. It was reasonable given what was offered and the dollar was bit stronger. I had to go through to two fittings. By the way fittings are tiring. You have to stand for a long period of time while they measure and pin.
The outfit was beautiful. All the seams are bound with fabric. I only wore it once to see La Boheme at the Sydney Opera House. Now it sits wrapped in tissue paper on the top shelf of my closet.
Should I investigate getting it altered?
