Ha, ha, ha, Carter. I actually have TWO (2) pairs of those black Addictions, a white pair that's pretty worn out, and a pair of Addiction walkers! My podiatrist recommended the Addictions, but I already had them. I only use them for exercise walking, however, due to their aesthetics. I bought the second black pair to rotate since I found them on discount. I buy them in Extra Wide (EE) so that I can wear my extra thick Thorlos to provide mega cushioning.
Does your doctor want you to wear ONLY athletic shoes? They do, of course, provide more stability than other types of shoes (says the gal who has twisted her ankle wearing clogs).
As you may recall, I have Hallux Rigidus, and my podiatrist recommended clogs with rocker soles. Dansko Pros work for me, but I had to try on a bunch to get the widest Regular ones as the Wides don't work for me. I probably wore those things 112 days in a row as they are pretty trashed now. I have now switched to Dansko Primas which have a similar footbed and nearly identical support. The Prima is a little less clunky looking, and I have them in cheetah and raisin; my next pair will be black tooled if I feel the need again for black shoes. On really bad feet days I need to wear Danskos, and have a feeling that if I ever get surgery they may be the only shoe I can wear (other than the Addictions).
FWIW, I think (some) Danskos work for me because my wider feet are basically a 6.5, and their 37 is 6.5 to 7.0. I understand that Sanitas are narrower and work for people for whom Danskos do not work. The cuter, less clunky Danskos like the boots and other shoes are not for you on this leg of the journey. They don't provide the support and the soles are not as rigid.
