Could this be the Year of the Ankle Strap?!

I don't want to jinx it, but I have seen tons of ankle strap shoes and sandals on the runway, and tons now online.

I LOVE ankle straps, and am wondering if any of you are planning to join me on Team Ankle Strap this season :)?

Here are a few pics from just the first page of the shoe selection on shopbop.com. Flats, high heels, platforms, wedges, flatforms.... I'm telling you, ankle straps are sizzlin' hot this year!

Alas I wont but love the look for those who can rock it. With lots of midi skirts around, and of course with pants, you can wear ankle straps without worrying so much about the cankle issue (who thought of that name????)...

I will wear them on a nude sandal, have a pair from last year and just purchased a new pair with a heel sort of like picture #6 except in cork. Ankle straps are tricky for me in colors or black but I do wear them. I'm barely 5.3-1/2" (doctor recently confirmed I'm 1/2" shorter than I used to be). I have to be careful to avoid leg shortening looks.

I just might join you. I love shoes with ankle straps, but I tend to avoid them because they draw attention to my bony ankles : (

I've been seeing lots of fashion mags saying they are in. Congrats for you. I HATE them. Tiny ankles and big feet. Feeling constricted already. The only one you've posted that I could consider is #5 - enough foot coverage to not draw attention to feet. I guess I'll be stocking up on other than these this season.

The nude gladiators I got recently have a pretty thick ankle strap. I'll see how I do in those before adding any more. I like the *idea* of them, but not sure if they'll work for me IRL.

Oh, sighing happily and sadly at the same time. I LOVE the look, and like Diana, adore the fact that the straps keep shoes on my feet (for once). But. With my short legs...you know what I am going to say, right?

Still...I can look for a nude-ish pair and try 'em. I remember wearing a burgundy pair in the 80s. WIth super high heels. I thought I was getting away with it then....was I fooling myself? Only time will tell...

Okay, some mixed results so far! It's interesting to me that some people don't like them because they feel like they have small ankles, and some don't because they feel like they have thick ankles :). It's all very subjective, of course!

Maybe some of you will find a nude pair that really sings to you, and they will be your gateway ankle straps! Bwah ha ha....

Thanks for the encouragement, Angie :)! I've already bought a pair of tiny wedges in snakeskin from Miz Mooz (the combo of snakeskin, ankle strap, and 1" heel was irresistible, below; mine are gray). I would also love to find a closed-toe pair of pumps with an ankle strap, with a 2" heel....

#4,7 and 10 look an awful lot like me!!
I have to say that I share your love of ankle strap shoes...honestly my favorite shoes in my wardrobe(except my new Sam Edelmans) have an ankle detail!!

Angie, yes, they are very similar, but my old ones have a 2.5 inch heel, so they are more for work or dressing up (e.g., for going out to dinner) vs. wearing all the time with shorts, casual skirts, etc. to go grocery shopping, to the farmers' market, and so on. I really like a flat-ish sandal to run around in in the summer.

Taylor, aren't they beauties? I especially love the #4 ones (they are L.A.M.B.) but they are way too high for me. Maybe you should post more of your WIWs with some detail shots of your fab ankle straps, so I can live vicariously through you :)!

ETA: Those SEs are rockin'! I love that textured metallic look. They look very elegant and very *you*.

I have a few pr. of LAMB...they are very high, even for me ...but I only wear about 3 hrs.
I have alot of older posts that show my shoes...perhaps I'll post them on the new lookfab blog...can you post old photo's there?

The Kingdom of Ballet Flats is just next door so do pop in for a slice of cake, with your Princesses. You can wear your strappy darlings to visit. We are a liberal Kingdom.

Me me me! I love ankle straps too. Mind you I have to be careful how I wear them, because unlike you (if I remember correctly, you're quite tall) I need to pay attention to leg-shortening effects, but I think I get away with it.

One of my favourite-ever pairs of shoes are four-inch black heels with red piping and four ankle straps.

They're actually pretty easy to walk in, and whenever I wear them, strangers comment. They don't get worn as much as they deserve, but they're the kind of shoes that make you feel like you own the room.

I love your selections, the flat ones and lower-heeled ones, that is. I didn't think "ankle straps" had "left the building" and were still doing their thing, year after year. So, I went to my closet and found some Sam Edelman SE Boutique metallic ones.

They are my only pair and I think their limited wear has something to do with leg shortening and feeling like I'm constricted, even though they really don't "feel" that way. I guess I need the freedom of a ballet flat.

I'm joining you, Jonesy! I recently discovered that ankle straps can work for me if the straps are dainty and hit below my ankle bone. I now have 3 pairs! Two of which are a bit high, so I'll be looking for more low heeled versions.

I've always love ankle straps but got rid of mine when I found out they highlighted thick ankles/calves and short legs. If I found a magically flattering pair I'd go for it.

Yesss! Just bought a pair of wedged patent shoes with an ankle strap. With long pants, it looks like there's no strap. Maybe I can't pull them off so well with skirts and cropped pants, but oh well... I can't wear shoes that fall off my feet. At least I'm long legged!
