Could really use some help identifying body type.

Hello ladies!

I'm having a hard time trying to figure out my body type, so it would be really great if you could help me out.

Always thought of myself as a rectangle, but these photos of me standing around in my thermal undergarments seem to tell a somewhat different story. Guess I could talk myself into almost any category now... Like, isn't there enough waist definition to be considered a hourglass? Don't I have a bit of IT going on there? But then again, doesn't my lower body seem heavier than my upper body? Am I seeing things that aren't there?.. I am beyond confused, input would be much appreciated.

I would say IT, your shoulders appear broader in these pics than your hips. Definitely don't seem to have more weight in your lower body to me.

You have a great figure! I'm no expert, so let's see what others say; but I think you're an hourglass, with some IT tendencies.

You have a very similar silhouette to me (I think your shoulders are a smidge wider than mine though), so I'm curious what the experts will say I call myself an hourglass primary and IT secondary, as my hips and rear are quite curvy from the side. Hopefully Angie will chime in!

Lovely figure. Slim hourglass with IT tendencies; depending on how you look from the side you might also read up on rectangle advice.

Looks like a slim hourglass with secondary IT to me! You might be a rectangle because of the slimness but you have good waist definition and visible hips.

I would like to thank all of you for your input and the kind words!
It felt really great to be able to perform a reality check on YLF and receive serious on-topic replies, not the usual "why do you care?"/ "i have no clue"/ "stop being ridiculous" lines i would get from spouse and family members.

And since commenters were unanimous in categorising me as a combination of IT/ hourglass, guess this body type mystery can be considered solved.

This totally explains why I have always disliked how I looked in spaghetti strap tops, and why I've been complimented on how I look in horrid saggy tapered drop-crotch denims even by people who absolutely detest the style (as in: "gosh, I really hate the style of pants that you're wearing, but you totally pull off the look").

I agree with everything that's been said, including that you have a gorgeous figure! Aside from showing off your lovely waistline, I'm not so sure that hourglass dressing guidelines would be all of that helpful to you...Because you're quite slim and have slim hips, I think you might want to check out rectangle guidelines.

Now I am confused--do you consider the pants to be horrid or just expect other people to? Because I am kind of longing for some of those In any case glad things are making sense to you.

This may sound silly, but after all my unsuccessful attempts to buy something dressier than a cotton v-neck pullover and noticing that for some ungodly reason pretty feminine tops and dresses tend to make me look like an undernourished underage transvestite, it was hard not to start thinking that there was something not quite right with my frame... so why bother trying to dress up, right?
This time I'm arming myself with guidelines and attempting another "mission defrump".

I often don't get conventional aesthetics, yet find myself helplessly drawn to fringe/ avant-garde/ experimental stuff.
And at the same time I recognize the more widespread opinions on those things. So I am prone to saying self-contradictory things like "those awesome ugly pants". Self-contradiction is very me, in fact. I came upon YLF while pondering how to achieve a combination of polish and disheveled-ness that will be "just so".

And as for drop-crotch pants: I absolutely love them, especially the ones by G-star. Those combine the part saggy, part tapered goodness with detailing that is both crisp and grungy/ industrial-looking... and I just sooo want to collect them all! must... resist... urge..

Ah, I see then I might be inspired to try on some of those from G-Star then, just to see. It' s been percolating in my mind for awhile. I love the way you describe your style. Honestly you have an enviable figure, and I imagine "mission defrump" is going to be achieved in no time.
