Could I make this skirt work?

I tried on this full-ish skirt at Esprit today. The length is at the knee and I like the shape on me. It is just a little more ladylike than what I normally wear, so I'm wondering what I could pair it with for summer? I would usually wear cotton t shirts or tanks in summer.

That is an absolutely stunning skirt Kirti! So sad we do not have Esprit here anymore. Btw, the last dot in the link should be removed, otherwise the link does not work.

I wear similar shaped skirts in the summer and to "toughen" them up, I tend to wear them with moto-styled vests, denim or pleather, layered over simple tanks/tees.

I've seen it in the store and it's true that it looks fairly dressy. I'm not sure I'd like it in combination with a cotton tank, maybe a blouse instead? Or a woven top?

ETA: I like the idea of a denim jacket with it.

Oh totally Kirti! I love the cut and pattern for you and I'd LOVE to see you in a skirt. After seeing Angie's post this morning, I'd tell you to wear this with a white button front shirt! Even a casual short sleeved one would look cute. Or you could wear a color with it too. What shoes were you thinking?

Astrid: I could wear both my red and blue denim jackets with it! I don't own any blouses and I'm unsure if I could find a plain blouse that doesn't have buttons! I usually have huge problems with buttons gaping.

Claire: I don't own any button downs except a denim shirt! I would wear my metallic loafers? Or just ballet flats? I don't own a lot of shoes

I think both denim jackets would look great with it and both the metallic loafers and ballet flats should work fine. It doesn't have to be a blouse, but maybe a dressier top? Something like this http://fr.topshop.com/webapp/w.....ultCount=1 instead of a cotton tank? This one would be too sweet with the self tie belt I think, but if you can remove the tie you could belt it with a leather belt instead.

I think it would also look great with a black, white, or complementary (orange!) tank. It looks nice with the cotton tee shown in the picture. I like the combo of a fancier fuller skirt with a streamlined tank....

That would look fabulous on you! Wear with tanks or Ts and layer with your denim jackets if needed. Red, white, yellow, kelly green, and orange would be nice colors on top.

For shoes, your metallic loafers would work, and would any nude shoes/sandals.

Tank top and red jacket with the soon-to-be-yours two-tone oxfords? I think I'd really like to have fun with picking up the print in your shoe colour here. Or the nude ones with the red stripey T-shirt and a belt? The pink top you wore yesterday should be lovely with this blue too --- add the other denim jacket and ballet flats or loafers, maybe your thrifted scarf...I'm sure it would look great with a denim/chambray shirt as well and your new oxfords or boots.

This is gorgeous and would look spectacular on you! Please buy it so I can enjoy it vicariously. I know you said button downs gap but I think it would be worth hunting for one that does not! I also think it would work great with the items that others have suggested.

This skirt looks like such fun for summer. If a cotton tee/tank is too casual, you could get a tee or tank in a rayon or silk blend instead.

I love it! I wore a dress with similar colors and pattern today. It was a short sleeve jersey vneck fit and flare. To offset the ladylike-ness, I paired it with black and white sneakers ...kind of like converse, but they were keens, and a very simple necklace.
