Could I get away with these for the opera?

I ran into Angie today in the Flagship Nordstorm today. She showed me these shorts she was contemplating. I'm going to be in Bellevue tomorrow, and they have my size. Should I try them on.

Anna, why couldn't you wear them daily?

I think you could dress them up for the opera with the right top and accessories. I like the idea of a white silk voluminous top, maybe tuxedo front, and something high and night-out dressy for shoes.

If only everyone in the audience had as much satorial cool as you do! I like the idea of this with a blazer, as long as the fit it good. So much more interesting than an LBD!

Well I tried them on today. Last pair in my size in the store. Unfortunately they hit right at the knee. If it was above the knee or below it, they would have worked. As is they're awkward. Even the salesperson agreed. Due to the scalloped lace hem they can't be altered. Hopefully they work better on Angie.

A resounding yes! I would guess like SF, in Seattle even the stuffy people at the opera are used to seeing interesting outfits. In fact, that is part of the fun of going to the opera.

I would wear sheer black hose under them for warmth and a dressier look. Also, if your footwear is more refined rather than tough or chunky, it will be opera-OK.

I could see these with a tunic mini dress over them, or like they are shown on the model with a tucked in shirt and maybe a blazer.

ETA should have read the thread first! Sorry they didn't work. They are beautiful.
