Cotton moto jacket: pass or explore??

So while I was at the shops on the weekend I ran across a lightweight cotton moto jacket by Ben Sherman. The print was a really fine houndstooth that looked a light grey from far away. I had seen and tried it on before, but still wasn't sure if I should take the plunge or no.

The pluses:

- its a moto jacket
- fit was great
- up close i loved the houndstooth
- lightweight means i can start wearing it sooner rather than later

The minuses:

- Its not leather. What I really need for my bike is a leather (or some other windproof) material.
- From a distance you can't make out the print, so its more a light grey colour.

Would I be crazy to get one moto jacket and then look for another in leather still? What about the pattern not being evident from far away?

Appreciate any input. There was only 1 left so I'm kinda worried this will be a moot point anyway!

I really love the jacket and could see it really smarting up a casual outfit well. And you could mix it with alot of colors.

As for if you are crazy to get it and then shop for a leather, I say, not if you will get use out of both!!

The jacket is gorgeous and I would definitely get it! And because it's hounds tooth it would look amazing with jeans.

I do not think you are crazy at all. If moto jackets suit your lifestyle, you can have as many as you want as long as they are different. I have a leather one and am hoping to get two more: one cotton, and one really casual made from sweatshirt like material.

I agree Tam: go get it! It's such a fun and beautiful jacket.

And of course you can have more than one, I'd be happy to have a few in my closet;-)

By the way: do you have a preference for a specific colour for the leather one? Perhaps we could help you look.

Ooh now I am wishing I had listened to my Mum and bought it whilst making up my mind. She is the queen of returning things.

I do love the moto look, I just wonder how much wear I'll get out of it. I don't think I'd wear it whilst at work (maybe on the way too and from). I would have to force myself to wear it as a casual or smart casual top and not just save it for special occasions. Kind of like I am having to do with my shoes that I have had sitting there but never worn. I don't really have an everyday jacket apart from a denim one, so its a good place to start.

Well looks like I may need to go back to that shopping centre this weekend. Good excuse to go have one of the cheap pedicures there. Now I'll be bummed if its gone!!!
