Corduroy blazer out-of-date or classic?

Going through my closet -- came across a black fitted corduroy blazer that I've never worn. It still fits, but wonder if it's in style this fall?

On another note, I'm not crazy about the buttons, they are just big black ones, that do not enhance the jacket at all.

Have any of you changed out buttons on a garment for a whole new look?

I have a brown cord ATL blazer that I love... I wonder the same thing too. Whatever the verdict here, it fits great and I plan to wear it again this winter.

I would say the cut of the blazer more so than the fabric would determine if it's dated. I have several cord blazers and also plan to wear them, au currant or not. Mine are more on the cropped, slimly cut side of the spectrum and finer wale.
I have changed buttons on a jacket, just this year actually. I dyed it and then had to find new buttons anyway, so I went for silver fleur de lis to give a little edge to a basic cotton blazer.
pic 1 is before pic 2 after. I don't sew much at all, so if I can do it, anyway can!

There was quite a bit of corduroy jackets in the Fall magazines and the other I was at an "upscale" mall and almost every store I went to had a cord blazer. I love them. I have two and I also have a velvet one.

And yes, I change buttons on things all the time. That is part of what makes a piece of clothing yours. It is part of "styling" it to suit you.

I think it's going to be a mix of the cut and the wale size that determines whether or not it's going to look out of date. Can you post photos, as well as a few ideas on how you want to style it? Changing buttons is a pretty easy update, and really can work wonders.

I have no answers re: corduroy jackets, but the button thing is a wonderful, easy update. And with the endless variety on the internet nowadays, you should be sure to find something that tickles your fancy!

I have thrifted a cream corduroy jacket last spring , updated the buttons and it is one of my favorites now. Pic #1 is with old white buttons and pic #2 is with their replacement.
I second Aida that the cut and the wale are the most important factors. Can you share a picture?

Yeah, echoing the above comments I think it depends on the cut/wale as well, but do not believe that corduroy jackets are inherently dated/dating.

(Sveta, love the updated buttons on your blazer BTW!)

I have a corduroy blazer that I really like, which is a very fine wale with a peplum back and 3/4 sleeves, and love to wear it especially in autumn. I haven't worn it much in 2011 but plan to do so this fall.

Definitely feel free to change the buttons. Here in Italy, women often will take off dull buttons and put on "jewel" ones, meaning much fancier ones that look like they could be jewelry!

I wear my corduroy blazer year round, and agree with others, cut is very key to looking "in style" or "out of date."

Here in Germany corduroy blazers (fitted, short) are all over the place. I went shopping some days ago and saw them in every shop around here. Mostly they are in nice, autumn-y colours, like a deep green, red or brown.
So they are definitely "in" this year.
