Thanks everyone for your help! I took yet another power shopping trip yesterday (so hard to stay focused!) and found a cord jacket. I hit up another H & M that had much more selection - they had cord jackets in mustard, a dark purple, a darker tan and black. Although they had some in my size, it was unfortunately just not a good fit for me. Even in my size, the shoulder seam was off and the arms felt a little tight. Since I am an inverted triangle (and petite), this is usually a problem area for me.
Next, I headed to AT loft to look at their cord jackets. The colors were great and the cord is thin so it doesn't feel bulky but I hated the shoulder puffs (makes me look like a linebacker). They also did not carry this jacket in petites at this store so the overall fit was not right for me (the arms were long - wasn't someone asking about this earlier?).
I peeked in at NY&Co for the v-neck elbow sleeve cardigans and they were out of my size in black and didn't even have the teal or ink blue I was hoping to find. I wish I had jumped on this last week b/c there seemed to still be good availability online but now black is only available in xs. I hesitate to buy tops online because of my upper body fit issues and usually like to try them on in the store. Oh well.
So, finally the cord jacket - I ended up buying one at JCPenney as Lori suggested!! It's funny because I normally never even look there (except for curtains). I feel like the jacket was a decent fit (had a bit of stretch which helped) and the color selection was O.K. (black, navy, tan, and a dark purple/burgundy). Yes, I know, pictures, pictures - will post TODAY hopefully! I am still eyeing the Boden cord jacket but at least I have something that will work in the immediate future when the weather cools down.
One thing I have learned from this forum - to open up my horizons when shopping for particular items! I usually stick with the same 4 or 5 stores when shopping and if they don't carry what I am looking for, I give up! I haven't even stepped foot in Express in more than 5 years because I thought I was too old (ditto for Forever 21 or Bebe). I assumed department stores like JCPenney only carried items for white-haired little old ladies which is also not true. Of course, I stick close to my favorites for most items - AT and BR offer petites that fit me really well but it doesn't hurt to open up the search parameters once in awhile!!!!
Oh and on the selection at H&M - so true. That's why I love going into the NYC stores or the ones in Europe (which I agree seem to have a much broader selection than U.S. stores).
