So a quick update to
these posts for those who are interested. The position I'd originally bought the suit for for is not going to turn into a job offer; while the hiring mgr. expressed no doubt that I could do the job very well, they feared I was over-qualified, or over-motivated, and would be quickly bored. And while I don't shy away from administrative work, that's fine - if the job truly would not make a good use out of the strengths and skills that drive me the most, then I probably wouldn't like it very much in the long run!
I had two phone screenings this week for very different positions that went well, and am waiting to hear whether they will bring me in for an in person meeting. Both sound like fantastic companies to work for, but for one the hiring manager might feel me to be over-qualified even though I expressed a lot of interest in the key responsibilities of the role - we'll see. The second is very different than any position I've ever held, but the actual tasks of the job touch on a lot of the skills and responsibilities I've performed in the past.
Anyway, I'm having a lot of fun with this process, but I also feel like I have a bit of a dilemma. As greatly as I've revamped my resume, the actual roles I've held have been largely administrative. And when I am in consideration for another administrative role, I have people asking why I'm not opting for a higher level position - yet when I apply for those higher level positions, I do not make the cut due to lacking the necessary experience they are asking for. I don't mind moving laterally if I'm moving to an environment and a job that will be a better fit, and more enjoyable; it's just that I feel like there is a disconnect between how the actual jobs I've held look on paper, vs. how I present in real life.
So, that's where I am. And I'm still looking!
