Thank you all for thoughts and advice! Angie, I think it is both a tad large (can see in the shoulder fit) AND meant to be oversized. The cut is swingy through the torso, purposely so. A very slight A-line vs. a cocoon shape, you know? I think that makes it a bit easier to wear it on the large side as if it is intentional.
I was wearing a very thin merino ribbed sweater when trying on. Maybe I will go try it again with a thicker sweater underneath and/or even a layer. Unfortunately, this is the smallest size they make it in, so it's this or nothing.
Happiness factor on try-on was high because it's a wild card for me -- as Joy and Sisi pointed out, it's more of a statement than typical for me.
It was surprisingly warm on try on! It's just polyester. As Staysfit mentioned, coats like this are pretty much a waste except for those who drive all the time or run warm in my former climate. Not warm enough for anyone who spends time outdoors in Ontario winters. But it could work from late October through March here. I don't know how it would fare in the rain.
Chris, I thought exactly the same thing about my cat!! A funny thing, also -- my kid used to have a large size snow leopard stuffy, a gift from friends. After she grew out of it, Mr. Suz started using it as a "neck pillow" because it was curved just so and he would stick it behind his head when reading in bed. We left it back in Ontario and he misses it. Maybe this can be his replacement?
