Continuing Sage of the Black Watch Trousers

Not to bore you any further with my issues with my black watch tartan trousers, but the saga continues. Here's a synopsis in point form:

Originally bought the pants in size 14 but they are too big
Went the next day and bought the pants in a 12 petite but when wearing them around the house last night and looking at my backside in the mirror, have come to the conclusion that they are too small
When returning the too small pair tonight, the SA (after listening to my size dilemma) suggested I try the 14 petite as it is one inch smaller in the waist, hip and thigh than the regular 14. None in the store unfortunately so she was going to order off the website for me but I do not carry a credit card with me and I could not pay with cash as this was a website order.
Drove home and quickly ordered the 14 petite as according to the SA, there were only 3 left available in the warehouse.
Hopefully this size will be the winner. If so, I will consider the larger size that didn't work for me a purchasing mistake and sell them through consignment.
If the 14 petite doesn't fit correctly, I will take the larger size I already own to Wonder Woman and see what she can do.
Lesson to self - be sure of the size before you alter anything.

I got to the end.

I think the only mistake you made was to have them altered too soon but that is a wear it now result is it not? In the end, you should have the pants you want for less than the regular price which wasn't too bad.

Shannon it is hard work sometimes but I do think it's worth it. If I have learnt anything from Angie, it's how important fit is. And those pants love you back so it's worth the effort.

Dianthus - that's it exactly! Sometimes being on Team Wear results in a hasty alteration. But you're right - looking at what the price of the trousers are without the sale, I'm still breaking even.

Caro & Deborah - by the time I get the "right" pants I had better wear the heck out of them - lol!

On a few items it has taken me a few try-ons before I figure out that they don't fit. I wonder if gremlins mess with the sizing in between? Maybe it's a good thing that I don't have a Wonder Woman near me. If something doesn't fit to my satisfaction, I eventually return it (not counting this year's venture into Nordstrom's complimentary alterations).

Crossing my fingers for you, Shannon! They are great trousers and worth the trouble. But oh, I know what you mean. I have sometimes been caught in similar situations with too hasty alterations, especially during the period when I had just lost weight. It's a tricky time.

Suz - yes, right now sizing is tricky. I'm everywhere from a 10 to a 14 depending on the brand and I'm still figuring out some new fit issues. I will count my lucky stars that at least they aren't a huge money item.

PPP all the way - and this was not a shopping mistake but a learning opportunity!
Unfortunately like with footwear sometimes you cannot assess the fit and quality until you actually wear the thing for real. Without alteration yu just cannot wear it so you cannot really assess it.

Karymk - I asked about trying the regular 12 too but unfortunately it is completely sold out both in stores and online.

Interesting. I am pretty sure they had a 12 when I was at St. Vital yesterday.

Dianthus - all they had left tonight at St. Vital was one size 6.
