This is a bit of an update post.
I have decided that I am pretty happy with my wardrobe right now. My new workplace isn't very trendy, and I can wear jeans, and when I wear things a few years old that are still nice looking (though to my eye a little dated) I get compliments. I have decided it is a great place to seriously lower the CPW on all my clothes, especially the smart casual. These were almost all bought post YLF and are things that fit and flatter etc.

Since I'm not really enjoying the current fashions that much I am pretty much sitting them out. I did buy one grey spotty sweatshirt and I also kept the dotted jumper most people thought too small (because I lost the receipt!) but I have decided is not too bad after all!
If I do any shopping it will be for those basics that I haven't replenished for ages (eg black layering tops - I have only 2, bought in 2008) everyday bra - I have one, bought in 2012, and possibly plain sweaters, since my office is quite cold. Maybe I'll splash out on tracky pants!

I have a little more money than I had for the first half of the year, but I hope to save some for summer as well, since I have really skimped on summer clothes for a few years now.

Since I am not really keen on shopping this feeling is quite a relief! What I will splurge on is getting my eyebrows done again, and my lashes tinted (I bought cheap mascara last week and it all ends up under my eyes, reminding my why tinting is much better).

So I am rejoining (if I ever left!) the ranks of the nontrendy.

Excellent! Our style should enhance our lives, not create stress or a sense of expectation! A wardrobe that suits your life and personal style is far more important than one that represents current trends! Also, even wearing your current items in different ways --- new color combinations, different ways of accessorizing -- can keep things fresh!

Anne, I would think it would be a relief to land in an office like you did. Contentment is a wonderful thing. Keeping up with trends can be fun, but it can also feel like pressure to me, so I think I get what you mean. It sounds like you bought carefully and well when you first joined YLF. You have a classic backbone of good quality pieces that fit and flatter in your wardrobe, and they will serve you well. Good job on your budget, too!

Nice! It's really to sit back and enjoy one's clothes, is it not? I like that dotty sweater, btw. It sticks in my mind.

I think contentment with our wardrobes is a goal for all of us, however we define it. So happy you are there. No need to be trendy.

Great post, Anne! It does make a lot of sense to sit the trends out if you don't like them. And overall beauty things, like tinting your lashes, can do so much to improve every outfit.

I think how we feel about our closet is a great reflection of our life in general-
perhaps after the upheaval of moving and changing jobs you are now in that settled, happy place. A fantastic place to be.
You will never be 'nontrendy' if you continue to check-in here- it kind of infiltrates our life choices in a good way I think

So good to not have to try and maintain a trendy wardrobe for work, stops the stress, and having funds available for some nice summer things will make shopping a little more fun

Sounds good to me, and a great type of workplace! I would feel so-o-o-o stressed if I had to work in super trendy workplace and felt that I had to dress like a fashion blogger in addition to my regular duties. Glad this leaves you free to spend your money on other aspects of your wardrobe and beauty needs/wants.
