Considering update item - YouLookFab Forum

Hi Ladies,

Still browsing on line. Getting a bit more serious after looking in my wardrobe and realising it is time to update my tall boots. I do need new black ones but I also would like a neutral. I did buy a neutral pair in suede with a wedge heel last year and I have been happy with them but they were not exactly what I wanted, I really wanted a smooth leather or leather look.

They fit my requirements much better. They are not leather but that really is not an issue for me. Low heel but not flat and nice and sleek.

Your thoughts?

I am wondering about the tone, is it too warm for me? Should I look for something lighter and cooler (in tone)?

On my screen they actually look quite cool-toned, Deborah. I really like the colour, quite versatile in general, and for your wardrobe, I think. Lovely boots. I vote give them a try

Thanks Inge. I appreciate that. On my screen I couldn't decide the tone. I felt they are kind of on the middle but wasn't sure.

The colour is unusual. Kind of neutral to my eye, unlike a white that would draw the eye.
I would perhaps order to try- Styletread are easy and convenient for returns in my experience.

Good question Sharon:). I think the answer is black everything;). I am picturing with black dress, black skirt (I have a midi drape twist jersey black skirt, with skinny jeans tucked in to them. Wearing so much black, I am looking for ways to add interest and lift the black, and as an alternative to an all black look. Thinking they would bookend with my hair?

That's a great idea. I think these will do the job admirably!

Deborah - did you try these on yet? Taupe does usually play very nicely with black. You'd have to try it with your gray and ink items to see how the undertone blends. Do you have other accessories in this colorway(scarves, belts, bags)? I would have pictured you skewing toward a silvery gray but I think this could be fun to play with. I think you need to try them in outfits and see how they do. Love the low heel and sleek look!!

Gryffin I have been looking at silvers and greys too:). These dont read as taupe to me and I agree taupe and black is not a good combo. The boots I bought last year are perhaps more taupe and I think that's why I haven't worn them much. I'm really playing with ideas at the moment. I haven't seen these in person. I'm actually in a very indecisive frame of mind at the moment. I'm challenged by what I like and what I like that works for me ;).

I really like the style of these boots Deborah - the sleek simplicity would play nice with your wardrobe. I think the true color will be the deciding factor - it's always so hard to tell on your monitor and they can look quite different IRL. I do think they are worth trying if possible. These have great potential.

Hi, I also agree that these don't read either overly cool or overly warm - a perfect neutral I would say.

As for the colour, I agree that they are neutral. But you can tell they're synthetic. I'd hold out for something nicer. Sorry to be a spanner.

BTW I'd say those are flats. I think there was a discussion at some point about when a shoe is considered to be a heel vs. a flat, and it was decided that a little 1" block heel still counts as a flat. Not that it matters technically. But if you were wanting a boot that definitely has a little heel, it has to be over 1.5".

I agree the color is more neutral, not cool. I have a pair of boots about that color and I LOVE them because even though they are darker than my skin, they function sort of as a skin color with skirts and really lighten up dark outfits. I am discovering that I am fine with a lot of neutral colors but you are very cool. So I think there is a chance you will not be happy with the color but they're worth a try!

These are lovely boots and the profile fits your style requirements to a tee. I like this color very much and see it, here, as midway between a warm and cool, so I guess it's a "true" neutral. I'm a bit like gryffin thinking that you may also like a stone grey or light nude with grey undertones, because of your beautiful wardrobe in blacks, whites and greys.

I love the shape and the color could work well, only bringing it home will tell.

For myself I'm usually open to checking out faux leather small booties or pumps in patent or black (they fit my budget - and as long as they hold up, don't usually 'show their faux'), but the one place I have often been disappointed is with browns/taupes/grays and also tall boots. They just never have looked convincing to me in person, and they don't fit and move like leather, which tall boots need to do to make me happy wearing them. These might be an exception, but you might want to examine them on with a critical eye, since shoes are one of those things which effect how the whole outfit reads.

Wow, I really love the look of these boots in pictures. I *am* wondering how they'd work with your wardrobe, tho. They'd soften all your looks by a lot, I feel.
