Considering black platform sneakers

I’ve been thinking about adding a pair of substantial black sneakers to my wardrobe — to wear with jeans including bootcuts in the F/W, and also with shorts in the summer. I ordered these three pair, and I have another coming from Nordstrom.

I’m trying them on very quickly here with shorts. Comfort is fairly equal, at least on first impressions. I have some impressions but would like to hear any thoughts you all have, knowing my style and how I intend to wear these. Ignore my awful facial expressions — I meant to crop out my head.

1-4 Adidas leather with slightly pointed toe and white tongue

5-8 Marc Fisher leather with black laces

9-12 Vans canvas with white stripes and white laces

I think I have a very slight preference for the Adidas pair but they all look great on you.

Hm . I'm the opposite of Joy. The Adidas are the only ones I don't like on your foot. I really like the ones in the find - the zipper thing is a cool design element that would work with your winter looks. I recently went through the Vans stage, and gave them away this spring . For some reason, they felt like the epitome of trying to be cool , which I felt a bit self-conscious about. I realize that might only be my issue, but whatever...(note : the boarder look was never mine to appropriate authentically, is all)

I'm currently wearing a knit black platform sneaker from Steve Madden which I am really liking. Very comfortable, supportive, sleek and gives me the height I like.

I like the look of the Vans best. Something about the white stripe on the side breaking up the black. Sorry I can't be more articulate.

I have a slight preference for the Marc Fishers, but they all look fresh to my eye. Like Lisa, I just bought a pair of Steve Maddens and will also wear them with my wide leg pants.

I like the Adidas and Marc Jacobs better than the Vans - the Vans are a bit busier/fussier to my eye. Black laces are an option with all of them of course.

I thought I'd like the Adidas best because I'm a sucker for a pointy toed sneaker, but I actually like the Marc Fishers. The black laces are more streamlined somehow, and the grommets (is that the word?) somehow stand out more, not garishly, but subtly. Also, that red stripe at the back tickles my fancy in a big way. And somehow they look quite balanced to me.

I also like the zip one in your Finds.

And now I NEED a pair of platform sneakers.

I like the Marc Fischer and the Vans. I'm gonna need to see them with the bootcuts to be sure. I like the Vans with the shorts, but I have a feeling that the black laces might look better with the longer pant.

My pick for you would be the Vans. I sort of have it in my head to find the white version of these - I found a Puma pair one size too big and I am waiting to see if I ever actually want to wear them. But I digress! The Adidas are my second choice. No explanation available .

Some thoughts i had:

- the leather options seem a bit more sophisticated and are perhaps a more fall/winter appropriate option.

- the Vans may look better with shorts than the others do, I think, perhaps because there is more white in them? They seem a little sportier/more casual, and more summery in the canvas.

- the Marc Fishers look the most sophisticated to my eye. What do your impartial eyes see as far as the flattery factor? Are they too high contrast with my pale legs? My initial impression in the mirror was that the other shoes with more white may work better on me, but I’m not sure that’s true after looking at the photos.

- if I wanted to lighten up the Fishers, I could always swap out the black laces for white ones.

- the Fishers are a little stiff but feel like they may soften up with wear. The tongue of the Adidas feels like it may be a little annoying. I’m wearing no-show Stance socks under all of these.

Oh and the Linea Paolo zip accent sneakers won’t be here til next Tuesday. So I won’t commit to anything before then. I am quite curious about those. I have no idea how that brand fits.

I like all three of them and don't think you could go wrong with any of them. My fave is the Vans, followed by the Marc Fisher, followed by Adidas.

I like the high-contrast look of the Vans, but you'll have to commit to your shoes being eye-catching. If you want the shoes to blend in more with your outfit, the Marc Fishers might be better.

In the Marc Fishers, I didn't notice anything about them being too high contrast with your legs, but I do feel like they are heavier-looking than the Vans. I feel like the Vans are more flattering.

I like them for you! I would own a pair myself but have problems finding a wider width.

My favorite are the Marc Fishers. I do not think there is a problem with the color of your legs against the black.

all 3 look great...but, i love the adidas, (i'm a pointed toe lover)...but also i'm imagining all 3 with bootcuts and thinking the adidas would look the best....but that's the thing, i'm imaging them, i know its hot and probably 100% humidity, but wondering if you could turn the AC down and show us with bootcuts...

I like the Marc Fishers and the zip pair in finds the most, but will like them more with jeans for sure. Tennis shoes are always cold weather only to me though!

The Linea Paola is my favorite of the finds- the zipper and the detail on the laces adds just a touch of lightness. For casual wearing with shorts, I like the Vans best, but my husband wears them, so my eye might be biased. For boot cuts, I think I’d like the Linea Paola or the MFs the best. I can imagine the Vans with boot cuts, but in my mind, it’s not a very edgy combination. I agree with kkards- it might be easier to decide if you try them on with jeans.

The Marc Fishers are quite flattering to my eye. I agree they look sophisticated, and the stripe in back is such a fun detail. Adidas come in a close second for me.

I like the Marc Fishers and think they will be the best with your Paige bootcut jeans because the dark laces give a more streamlined look.

I favor the Adidas because of the additional white accents and the relative simplicity of the design. The more casual Vans are nice with shorts but might get distracting with full length pants. Really like this sneaker style on you overall. Hard to go wrong. And nice bookending with your hair.

I love the Vans! Disclaimer: I replaced all my Converse/Chucks with Vans, and now own several pairs, so I am definitely biased.

The red (burgundy?) stripe on the Marc Fishers is super cool, and I think the zippered one in your finds could be fun and go with your style, too.

I like the Marc Fisher best - KILLER - and the Vans the least. The Marc Fishers have the nicest shape on your foot too.

Although I LOVE white laces, the laces of the Adidas do not look neat and crisp. My own white laces need to be stiff and sturdy, IYKWIM - not floppy.

I think the first pair are too pointy and the Vans skew too casual for your style. I like the second pair the best.
