It was a cold bright autumn day, the afternoon I travelled to Harestains, a beautiful country estate. The old stables and outbuildings of the estate had been renovated and converted to studios where local artisans and craftsmen where selling their wares. I passed through the heavy wrought iron gates and peered through the windows, handmade jewellery, pottery and abstract landscapes greeted me by return.
The distinct smell of leather filled the air, nestled into the corner of the stables was Cuero handbags, I stepped into the workshop come studio and I was smitten, candy coloured handbags of all shapes and sizes filled optic white pigeon holes and the hum of a sewing machine resonated in my ears.
There it was, amongst the large squishy bags and oversized totes was a black pleated handbag, lacking in hardware and reminiscent of the vintage fan shaped handbags I covet. Senses overwhelmed, I stroked the large pieces of leather draped over wooden rails trying to decide on the colour of MY CUSTOM HANDBAG. Pistachio green, fuchsia pink, teal blue, eggplant, patent and suede the possibilities where daunting.
I finally settled on a distressed piece of silver leather, the crackled finish revealed a deep dark grey beneath, and I instantly fell in love with a lime green and silver shot silk lining, I hoped the finished design would be stunning and the results are......
