Outfits Ensembles Trends Advice

I have to admit that I am not very good at responding to long posts, especially when you have to type in a password which I usually forget. I cannot remember all those outfits or I do not have the time until later and when I go back everything I would have said has already been said. Does anyone have tips on how they respond so well when there are say 10 outfits?
Do others have this problem? I love to see all the outfits posted!!

I use tabbed windows in Firefox, so I keep the YLF window open while I flip through the photos in another. That way I can look back if I forget a password. I also just comment as soon as I see the photos, particularly on the ones that really stand out to me.

I have the same problem!! That is why I started my blog, because I prefer to look at other's blogs (Shell and a few others do this), and I also find it the easiest way for me to share my pics.

GG, what browser do you use? In Firefox or Internet Explorer 7 you can open links in new tabs, as Kristen describes - you right-click on a link and select "Open in new tab" from the pull down menu. With other browsers (Internet Explorer 6) - you can also right-click a link and select "Open in new window" - that will open a new browser window with photo album, but will still keep your YLF forum window open. Hope it helps!

I do what the others haves suggested - open a new window so one has ylf up and the other has the pictures. Then I flip between the pages to my comments on ylf as I scroll through the pictures on the other.

I was kind of hoping you'd be confessing to liking jumpsuits. (Haven't tried one on yet. I doubt they'll look good on me.) That'd be my confession. I didn't get around to saying it on the blog post Angie did about them. Whew! Glad to get that off my chest.

I do find it helpful when women post their pictures in albums and just send one link to the album. Having to always go back to click a new link for every picture is a bit more cumbersome, so I always appreciate it when I can browse through an album and then just write one comment about the outfits that stood out to me.

This was a great question because I and probably others had the same problem. Thanks for the tips on using tabs.
Like Antje I also like when we can go to the album and see the pictures with the notes under them. Now I need to figure out how to make my album into sub folders to show only the pictures for the topic at hand.
Also, GG I love your intriguing title, 'confessions'. Hmmm, I confess, uhm, never mind.

Hee, I'm the odd one out. I open all pictures in individual tabs and then flip back and forth. Even when there's an album link, I open it in a new window and then open all pictures in separate tabs.

Hi GG, I agree that it's challenging when there are a lot of photos. I especially have a hard time when each photo is an individual link. I much prefer one link to a photo album where i can see all the photos at once, and look at them more closely in the album.

I right click on the link and choose "open in new tab" (or new window if you don't run Vista). Then you can toggle back and forth between the YLF page and the outfit links. I look at each outfit, then go back and type my thoughts, then toggle back to the next outfit.

It took me a while to figure out the best way for me.

Hmmm, I always assumed that even if I posted the individual links, you all could still click the "browse" button and see the entire album if you prefer? Because I can do that when I click on my links. You guys can't? Sorry! I had no idea.

Shiny, you can browse through your album that way because that is how I usually look through what you post. I too like the album link best, which is why I switched over to that format (just took me awhile to figure out how to do it, hee).

GG (and others)--I wouldn't worry about feeling badly that you can't or don't respond to all the posts. I'm sure everyone here understands. I like to try to respond to all the posts as well, especially outfit posts, because I always really enjoy looking through them. But sometimes I don't have time to respond just then, or I only have my phone (which is a huge pain to respond on with more than one sentence). This has been especially true lately with tests and things at school, and now I'm also working weekends. So I'm kind of in the same boat as you are right now.

I know I always appreciate the comments and feedback I get to my posts, so I try to return the favor. I don't take it personally if people don't respond as much, though. I'm sure that's the case with the other members as well.

GG, I also confess that I don't have the er um patience to flip back and forth between more than about 4 or 5 photos and the forum. What I usually do is open in new tabs for individual links or watch the slideshow for single links. I flip through them all at once then respond to the things that really stand out to me. Then I might go through them all at once again to make sure I didn't forget something before hitting the submit button. I also try not to post more than 4 or 5 pictures at once too.

I am not a big email-er or chat person so this forum is a little unusual for me and the only one I participate in-- thanks to the wonderful people here!

GG - I have the same problem. I get overwhelmed by more than two or three outfits and usually just end up with a general impression that the person looks great.

If there is a particular outfit that jumps out as either fantastic or off the mark, I might comment on that one, but usually they become a blur to me. I'm just not a great fashion critic. I miss a lot of details the other amazing women here pick up on. I am still trying to figure things out myself, and I don't want to steer anyone down the wrong path with things like: "Yes! Those parachute pants are totally YOU!"

I just try to be as supportive as I can.

i guess we all have our own preferences! i prefer either individual links or a link to a blog where i can see all at once.

i don't really care for a link to a single album b/c then i have to file through the whole album and wait for each photo to load. however, when individual links are posted, i can just open them all in new tabs and they load simultaneously.

not sure if everyone can do this, but it may save time when opening individual links...

if you click on a link by clicking on the scroll wheel of your mouse, rather than the left mouse button, it will automatically open a new tab. this works in firefox and internet explorer, i believe.

Shell, you're not alone. I also prefer individual links that I can open in tabs. And if they are direct image links, there are no ads and other things. But it's good to know others' preferences.

I also have trouble with long posts with lots of pictures. With two little ones underfoot, I have a hard time staying online for very long and I find that the board moves so fast, I usually miss the opportunity. By that time, many others have usually responded to the original poster so I feel I am just being redundant. I appreciate the forum members that take the time to respond to new posters or those threads that do not have too many responses - it can be discouraging when yours posts don't get much response.

I prefer individual links rather than a whole album because I can open them up in separate tabs. For some reason, my server at home has been really slow lately so I have a really hard time getting through albums.

Shana I can relate to this too. My computer is fairly slow, so even though I do read most of the posts it does take me a long time to look through albums and similarly don't often actually post anything.

I used to do the separate tab thing; then I stopped because it hurt my hand to use my mouse so much. but recently I have discovered that you can use a keyboard shortcut to go between tabs on explorer. Ctrl 1 gets you to the first tab, Ctrl 2 to the second etc. Not great if you have too many to easily count!

Interesting how different we all are! I use google reader to read the posts, and then open links in separate tabs as well. If I scroll through an album I forget what I've seen at the start. I like blog posts a lot though, considering swapping over to that format as well!! I guess there is no perfect solution for everyone though huh

Aha another Mac user;-)

You can actually right click too Jean, even if you don't have a Mighty Mouse:
Press the ctrl-key while you click on a link, a few options will appear (I'm not sure what they're called in English, but it's the first and second one starting from the top):
- you can open the link in a new window
- you can open a new tab (if you do that, you will see the different tabs displayed in the grey border of your browser screen (top, underneath the white window where you see the url), and then you just have to click on them to change between them).

I find it easier to just open the link to the complete photo album in a new window. Then I open the Application 'Text Editor' (it should be in your dock or you can also find it in the Applications folder). I then scroll through the pictures while taking notes in Text Editor. Once I'm done, I return to the original thread and copy/paste my notes into the screen here.
