Complicated question for Excel geeks - wardrobe spreadsheet

I wonder if any of our computationally gifted friends might know the answer to this question. I am now using a modified version of Kate's spreadsheet http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....t-you-wear to keep track of my wardrobe. Basically, the first column has a list of all my clothes (at least those that are actively in use), then I have info on purchase price and dry cleaning or alterations cost (these all get added up to calculate the price of the item), then I have multiple columns where I enter the date on which this item was worn. A couple of columns are used to calculate (automatically) when was the last date something was worn, how many times total it was worn, and what is its cost per wear.

Ideally, I would also like to keep track of combinations of items I am wearing and whether I liked them. Is there any way to have Excel find all items that were worn on a given date and then copy the names of these items into a new spreadsheet?

If you want to have Excel find all the items that were worn on a given data and copy the names of the items into a new spreadsheet, a macro would work quite well. If you don't want to write a macro, then you could sort the columns according to the date and then copy and paste over the rows (items) that match your given date.

Hmm...as Angela said you could create a macro or sort then copy and paste into a new worksheet. You could also use Excel's advanced filter.

However, you could end up with 365 of these sheets over the course of a year. Would that ultimately be meaningful to you?

Good point about 365 outfits - this is probably too much to be meaningful. For now, I have only been keeping track of what I wear when for about a month so I have not repeated too many combinations. I would like to keep track of which outfits worked really well and perhaps even print out a list or sort my clothes so that the entire outfit is in one place in the closet, to make it easier to get dressed in the morning. I do not have a problem with wearing the same combination multiple times (say, every two weeks) so that would make my life easier.

I have sorted my spreadsheet by dates and discovered that my new version of Excel has color-coding built in for "good" (green), "neutral" (yellow) and "bad" (red) so now my outfits are color-coded. I added comments for the combos that are coded red, such as "needs turtleneck instead of t-shirt", "sweater looks baggy" etc.

I'm so happy that the spreadsheet is working for you!

I have no idea how to do this (or how to write a macro), but I'll be following the thread to see what I can learn. I love the idea of color coding how good different outfit were, I never would have thought of that!

I'm keeping an eye on this thread, neat idea! I currently use separate workbook in excel for my outfit combination's. I like the handy list on days I am stumped on what to wear in the morning. And it let's me keep track out outfit combination's I favor.

Since I have no idea how to write macros, for now I am just sorting by dates worn.

Here is what the result looks like.

I will probably end up switching to a separate notebook for outfit combinations eventually but so far this works for me.
