Comparison: Gap broken-in straight vs. Old Navy skinny boyfriend khakis ETA: front view

For those who are interested, this is a comparison between these 2 pairs of slouchy pants, which are quite similar. Keep in mind, I have an hourglass figure with a loooonng rise. As you can see, my widest point is my thigh, so do with that info what you will.

Pictured are the Gap (red) in size 6R and the Old Navy (green) in size 8R. I personally prefer the fit of the Old Navy for my figure. Even if you prefer your pants slouchier, they will hug your curves more in a larger size. I have short legs so the Gap 30" inseam is full length on me. I like this for wearing full length, but I prefer the ON 27" inseam for rolling. The pockets on the ON seem to lay flatter, which was a concern for some people in the Gap pant.

The fabric feels pretty much the same on both. They are very soft 97% cotton, 3% spandex. Both come in an array of bright colors, but the ON retail for $30 and the Gap for $50. Some options are on sale right now. One word of caution is that I can roll no higher than you see in the picture due to muscular calves, so that may affect some others as well.

I haven't tried Gap's skinny mini skimmer, but I wonder if the fit is similar to the ON boyfriend khaki. I'm guessing the fit is slimmer from the reviews, but I can't confirm. I haven't tried the linen version of the Gap broken-in straights, but I have them on the way in a size 8. I can't get the front picture of the red one to load right now, but I'll try later. Just a word of caution - I found the linen ones to run a full size large. I have the BIS khakis in a 10 but the linen ones in an 8.

Diana found some size variation in them too, but in her case a pair was small for the size listed.

From the side view, I prefer the fit of the red Gap pants. The green ON pants look good from the front view, so I hope you get to upload the front view of the Gap pants

I'm with Karie in preferring the fit of the red ones from the side, particularly if you want a slouchy boyfriend type fit. But it looks as if you can roll the green ones to a better place. I have that issue as well with pants that roll so I know what you are talking about.

Yes, Suz, you may even want to size up more in the Old Navy if you like a slouchy fit (this may be as slouchy as I go right now). I do think they are a bit slouchier than they look in the pictures, but my behind doesn't allow for much slouch. I find the sizing differences so odd considering they're made by the same parent company.

Ceit, yikes, I may have to exchange the linen pants if they run as big as you say!

I really like the fit of the red ones--front and side. They look really good on you--perfect amount of slouch (at least in photos.) I have the Gap broken in straights in mint (petite) and the Skinny Mini (regular) in grey--the main difference is the fit through the calves. I'm 5'3 and the petite is perfect in the straights but was too short in the Skinny Mini--the knee break was in the wrong place. The regulars are much better but are too snug to roll very high on the leg.

I like the red ones best too!

Thanks Liz, this is very helpful. I have the Gap khakis on order. My experience with the Gap linen pants was similar to Ceit's. I had the olive pair and they were easily a size or more larger.

Now I have to thank you all as well. I just ordered another pair of the linen pants, since it sounds like the 8s would be huge. I have so many pairs of pants on order right now, but it's really just 3 different sizes of each!
