Compare these jackets on me, please.

#1 is my new Vince colorblock jacket. #2 is a Trouve draped navy jacket I put up for sale. Technically both fit me and they are similar in color. So tell me which shape you find more flattering for me and why? I am kind of confused - I love both styles but feel more comfortable in the Vince, maybe because of weight gain and feeling less skinny?

I love the Vince, hands down. It's the shape of the collar and the V. Now that I see it more closely/ carefully, I see what the Trouve wouldn't work for me (alas). The Vince would, however. Yet it also looks amazing on you. I see no weight gain, by the way. You look great.

Yes, I think the Trouve is too much of a wide-neck V for you, Suz. The Vince would look great on you - that's why I'm confused about whether it truly looks good on me And I appreciate your kind words - sadly, the scale and my clothes say otherwise!

Agree, it's totally the way the Vince lapels break closer to your bustline (so it appears) vs. the Trouve which opens further down at basically your stomach and is less flattering. Also, the color of the Vince is perfect for your own coloring.

I saw your posting on the Trouve and thought about it for myself, but then compared the lapels on both and agree - the Vince is superior in every way. Love it on you. You just look terrific in it.

I agree with Suz -- the collar is more flattering on the Vince. Also, I like the darker blue of the Vince compared to the Trouve. And honestly, I haven't noticed any weight gain!

The Trouve is actually a very similar color but because the Vince is matte and the Trouve more shiny, I think the flash affects how they photograph.

Yup, the shape of the collar brings the eye up to the portrait region.
It looks higher energy and more emphatic, if you will. Good for some people - I love it - but #2 is a calmer more flowy look that will suit others.

I'm confused - wouldn't a long line be better if one is feeling thicker?? And the color blocks on the Vince further cut that line. I don't get it . . . (and no, you don't look thick or big, by the way - but I know how it can feel sometimes)

Mo, that's what I would think! Maybe a jacket with MORE drape or a longer length (like a waterfall cardi) would work better? I am keeping the Vince, no question - tags are off and it's been worn twice already. So this is more of an exercise in future leather jacket discipline and understanding.

I agree that the position and shape of the collar are more flattering on the Vince. I'll also add that I think the lapels on the Trouve are too small.

I think it's where the point of the lapels hit. The Vince points are higher. The Trouve are at your waist, basically big arrows going out from your waist.

I agree that the higher stance on the Vince raises your leg line and creates an overall nicer proportion.

the trouve would maybe look better with a dress or a column of color. or a high-contrast skirt and top combo where you can see your waistline up high.

I think the color in #1 is more flattering to your coloring, and I also like the way it's finished at the neckline better. I'm not sure about the fit, the experts will be able to tell.

I think the Vince, with its straightish cut at the hem works better in you then the (moderate) high low of the trouvé

The first think that hit me about the Vince was the color looks so much better on you. I think the color of #2 washes you out a bit.

I love how Vildy said the higher stance and the collar shape of the Vince jacket are higher energy and more emphatic. I never would have known to articulate it quite that way, but that is just what I felt when looking at the images. The Vince looks more powerful on you. LOVE.

I'll read the rest of the responses later, but my reaction is definitely the Vince. I like higher collar on you.

ETA: So I see I'm in the majority. I think the longer, drapier collars work better on a taller body while the higher collar of the Vince seems more flattering on a a more compact frame. And, as to your question about the longer line, I think the angle of the collar and the curved hemline of the Trouve don't really read as a long straight line for figure flattery purposes.

This is a very interesting exercise. I had the same confusion about the Lanai once I finally had one. I found that my topshop version to be more flattering and for me it had to do with where the points pointed - sort of what Anna said. I also think the length of the stance is a factor - if I recall from the Triumph of Individual Style, there are some magic points that reflect the length of your face, or your cheekbones to chin, and I suspect that the Vince hits one of them. I must say, however, I find these analyses interesting only after I decide intuitively which looks better - I don't think I would get anywhere trying to look for the jacket that meets the rules without trying it on and loving it. Hope that makes sense!

The Vince by a long shot and for me it's because of fit (higher V stance; V for Vince, I guess), color and shape. It has nothing to do with weight gain; you simply look phenomenal in the Vince.

Una - strong preference for the vince. First it's darker. It gives more contrast with your coloring and makes your complexion glow. Second the collar opens higher and the points at front are higher. Makes you look slimmer, gives you waist definition and gives you a much, much longer leg line. Also the color blocking makes your shoulder line look graceful, the trouve actually accentuates it. It's also slightly less volume, more conventionally flattering, refined and professional. You could pop this very a shift and go to work and look polished. More casual on the trouve. I think the vince is fantastic on you!! So that's my two cents!
