Combat boots--I've made a terrible mistake :)

What to do with lace-up combat boots?

I got a phenomenal deal on a pair of boots much like these (although mine are a couple of inches shorter, and more of a luggage tan, a color I adore for leather, which is why I foolishly bought them), and now I don't know what to do with them.

I thought I probably couldn't tuck skinnies into them--since they're lace-up, they'd be right up against my leg and the entry point of the jeans would look weird, as if I were a little kid about to go out and play in the snow--but mainly because the height is kind of awkward, since it's in between ankle booties and regular riding boots--and they're too bulky to wear under bootcut jeans. Is there anything I can do to create an outfit that doesn't scream "my kid's mom wears combat boots"?

Thanks so much for any help! I love the boots on their own--it's the outfit around them that has me stumped--and I would be so grateful for suggestions.

(In trivia payment for any advice, when I Googled the phrase "your mom wears combat boots" to see how blatantly I'd be dating myself, I found out it's actually calling someone's mother a prostitute who followed army guys around. Who knew? I just thought it meant she looked masculine.)

Ha! This is hilarious, sorry I was just thinking about my combat boots earlier today when replying to the "what do you wear that's divisive?" thread. My combat boots are shorter than this though, and are a vintage-finish distressed leather. Total tough -chick boots, which I am decidedly not. But they are my favourite boots and I am wearing them anyways. I wear mine with both BF's and skinnies, and don't do any tucking, but again mine seem to be quite a bit shorter than yours. Yours look like they could be pretty cute with a knit skirt and tights - would you wear something like that?

They are gorgeous. I like lisap's suggestion. I would also try them with leggings and a tunic. I have combat type boots and wear them with BFs, relaxed skinnies and leggings. You could also try pinterest for inspiration. Try searching for combat boots. I am a totally useless with computers or I would transfer some here (that is probably not the right word).

I saw a pair of combat boots that height and I would have bought them but my size was gone. Sigh.

I don't have boyfriend jeans yet but I will definitely put them on my list. That could look really cool! And I will go ahead and try them with skinnies as well as with leggings... what's the worst that could happen? Nothing. Thanks for the suggestions!!

Combat style boots are an essential in my wadrobe. I'm not sure why you cant tuck them into skinnies. Maybe pair them with low contrast bottoms? Also they would look good with skirts.

Those are gorgeous! I wear my mid calf lace up boots with skinnies (tucked in) bfs (rolled up), or skirts.

The great thing about lace up boots is you can adjust the fit all along the leg. So if you feel that they are too tight over skinnies, just loosen them a bit! Actually I like mine best with the top one or two holes unlaced so the top opens up just a little.
