Colours of the Halogen pencil skirt?

I can hardly believe it, but my 18W Halogen pencil skirt is too big on me now! This has inspired me to roll the dice on the regular-sized skirts for the first time in god knows how long.
Since my last pencil skirt purchase proved to be not as cheerfully-hewed as I hoped, I wanted to look into the shades available now. Specifically I'm curious about "blue depths" and "red clay." What do those colours look like? Which one would you recommend for me?

Michelle, those are gorgeous skirts. The "Blue Depths" skirt resembles a dark royal blue - almost teetering on the edge of navy - and the "Red Clay" is a dark orange. I hope that helps! Congrats on the regular sizing - these will look smashing!

ETA: I think you should go for the Blue Depths!

The Blue Depths looks like an ink blue or midnight blue to me. The red clay looks like a rust orange on the website, but I ordered it and IRL it's more of a brighter cantaloupe orange. It had more of a spring rather than autumn feel, so I returned it since I was looking for a fall skirt to go with my autumn palette. I think you'd look lovely in either but I think the blue one would look lovely with your winter complexion. Congrats on the weight loss!

On my monitor, the blue depths looks like a royal blue, a little darker than cobalt but lighter than navy. The red clay looks like a dark burnt orange to me. Given how good you look in your cobalt dress, I think I'd go for the blue if I were you.

Thanks for the responses, ladies. This is interesting. Based on the descriptions you've provided, I was thinking the red clay sounded good as it would add an orange touch to my wardrobe and avoid duplicating the dark blue of the other pencil skirt I just ordered...yet the overwhelming consensus is for the blue depths skirt. Thoughts?

Ah, I didn't realize you had ordered another blue skirt! In that case, go for the Red Clay - it's lovely, and apparently Orange is THE colour this spring/summer! Couldn't hurt to add a splash of it to your wardrobe!

I think Natalie said that the red clay is more of a canteloupe orange? I haven't yet looked at the link, but here's what I'm thinking:

Angie tells us that we *can* wear colours that aren't necessarily "our" colours, but that we might not wear them closer to our face. This means that an orange skirt could totally work, especially if you pair it with ink blue, or other winter colours on top.

What do you think of this idea?

I'm off to look at the link and see the two colours and what they look like on my screen - although it can be hard to "tell" when looking at things online - someone who's actually tried the skirt in person (Natalie I think) is going to have a better idea of what the colour looks like.

edited to add: just went and looked and the red clay looks like it could be *either* a spring-like colour (a bit coral-ish/fruity-ish like canteloupe as per Natalie) or a more earthy colour. But when I say earthy, it's not drab - it really does look a bit like red rocks/red clay - a desert kind of colour - this could be worn all year round I think. I also love the blue - it's slightly deeper than royal blue/cobalt blue, but isn't quite dark navy either. Nice colour! If you already have another blue skirt on order, then the red clay could work out. Here's hoping Angie will chime in on this one...it's tough to be ordering stuff internationally - you want to get it right without return hassles.

Hi Michelle.Congratulations on the new size.
I think what is happening here with the colors is that the blue one is a color that already exists in your wardrobe and that we know you are comfortable with.
The orange(even if it is more a cantalope ) is something diferent from anything else you own. Stepping out of your confort zone so to speak.
From what I understood stepping out of your confort zone is precisely what you want and the orange skirt is beautiful and would look great with your grey blazer or blue for spring.
My vote is orange.

Michelle, that blue is a lovely inky color that would look spectacular with your coloring and it looks to be quite a different hue from the blue pencil skirt you recently purchased.

Orange is one of my absolute favorite colors, but even I'm not a fan of this shade of orange. I'm afraid it would not do your beautiful complexion any favors. The Halogen skirt used to come in a gorgeous perfect red shade that was smack dab in the middle of the red spectrum between orange red and blue red. It might be worthwhile, if you know what size you might take now in the skirt, to see if you can find one on eBay. I'll try to get the name of the color for you.

Red clay is pretty on trend, so I would say if you want to add some orange to your wardrobe, go for it! The orange won't be right next to your face so it should work and not look unflattering, I think!

Oh. Well, if you already have a similar blue skirt then go for the orange! It is nearly spring and that skirt felt like more of a clear/bright spring-like dark orange. And orange is one of the hot spring colors. I only didn't keep it because it wasn't the rusty orange shade I wanted to go with my other fall clothes.

Michelle, I just returned the "green grove" Halogen seamed pencil skirt in a 16. It was too snug for me, but I carry ALL of my weight in my stomach. All of my Sejour and NYDJ skirts are 14W's or 16W's .

Michelle, the blue one is next on my list but I have a red one already, from this past fall winter color spread.

I would vote for clay red first!

ETA: red and black is yummy, even yummier if you combine with off white accents!

I have a Halogen skirt that's almost the same as the red clay . This one looks like a deep carrot color to me. I think it's beautiful and versatile, and orange is the IN color right now. The blue looks like a mix of cobalt and navy - pretty and useful but more everyday.

I vote orange!

BTW, the "green grove" skirt seems to be sized a bit smaller than the previous batch of Halogen skirs. I have two that I bought past summer (grey and purple) and they are a bit on the "generous" side and I got "green grove" last week in the same size and it was snug. So either different colors have different sizing or it changes from one season to the next.

Last fashion week Angie wore a Fab combo of a orange pencil skirt and lace Anne Fontaine black shirt.So I guess my answer is yes, the red clay would work with black.

Michelle, I'm late in chiming in here, but you can make either color work. I vote orange because it's a happy, warm color. If it were a smell, it might be cinnamon...you know, that warm, delightfully spicy smell that makes you think of a cozy kitchen with treats in the oven?

My sweet tooth is acting up again...sorry for steering off course, lol!

Amy's onto something here Michelle - that red clay skirt is just like cinnamon. It's also like a maple leaf in very early October - not "burnt" or too earthy yet - still some fire to it. At least this is how the colour looked on my monitor this morning.

I am liking the idea of pairing it with navy as per Texas Sarah and also with black. It'll work.

Oh, I hadn't seen these new seamed pencil skirt colors and am excited! The red clay color may also work well with a deep red or fushia top. MaryK could give pointers.
Congratulations on your new size. The right scarf or beads can always pull things together.
Here is a scarf that looks like it would work well with the clay skirt, especially for spring/summer (coral version or blue version):

It is a peacock feather design on cream background (but not much of the background shows) and the coral version has soft orange, black, soft aqua, brown, and a bit of greenish gold. It looks pretty light and airy. The blue version of the same scarf has the clay color, a lighter orange, a soft medium blue, a little black and bit of greenish gold. It's colors are a little deeper overall. Neither of these are jewel tones, however, which is why they seem great for spring but could be worn anytime of year.

Michelle, the Red Clay skirt has a lot of orange in it. It will work well with black. As Velvety and Amy put it, it inspires autumn, it's a frank, warm, deep shade of red that has a full-bodied feel. It seems to absorb light rather than reflect it.

It is not brick red, at least not as it appears on the screen; brick red would contain brown but this colour doesn't. I love the descriptions of leaves and cinnamon.

Lots of combination possibilities, great cut, go for it!

I am sooooo excited for you, Michelle! Can't wait to hear how these work for you. I love the red clay for you, but I wish the magenta-ish one was still available because I could totally picture you in that one. Maybe I'll spot one on the sales racks. I know there must be some floating around out there.
