coloured chinos

One of the big trends I am noticing here in London is "chinos". here is the link http://www.marksandspencer.com.....s=center-3

Are these same as chords? Do you think these are the next fashion trend after BF's?

Mona, I am seeing these here in Australia also. A variety of colors. I tried a pair on in red today as I have never ever worn chinos. They seemed ok but I didn't buy.

I was seeing them a lot this summer here in the States (Gap, J Crew) they seem to have switched over to cords and silks for the fall. I have orange ones (H&M) and some acorn colored ones from Jcrew sale. They're a fun alternative to skinnies and denim IMO.

I'm loving all the different colors available in pants!

Chinos are a twill fabric - flat face. Comes from the Spanish word for China or Chinese. [These are the same as Khakis - based on the Hindi word for dust.]

'Cords' are short for Corduroy - with narrow ridges of velvet

I saw some yesterday at the Gap, but didn't try on. I have 2 pair from Jcrew last year, in red and green.

I am not a fan. I think I may even have a slightly poisoned eye for chinos. They are a very preppy style, like khakis. My personal feeling is that denim (colored in this case) feels, fits, and generally looks better.

I agree, Chinos are a bit preppy because they are or imply tailored. the cut is a man's classic cut, and is seen in many business pants. The difference is the material. Mine are cotton from H&M in white (2 pair) and one navy - I stuck to classic colors to try them out. I love them so much I wish I had bought more. But, my style is a masculine and feminine twist and they fulfill the masculine part for me.

Chinos worn baggy and rolled have a similar vibe to bf jeans. They have never really gone away in the US. Men have worn them for years as well as preppy women. Traditionally, they have side pockets. They don't work on me as an hourglass with pear hips. They work on women with straight hips and thighs like forum members Marley or ClearlyClaire. Probably Alaskagirl as well.

I must disagree, I am a pear and they work better than most slacks ever have...BUT, it took awhile to find the cut for me and I sewed down & cut out the pockets to remove the extra bulk they create. Unlike skinny jeans they don't hug my curves but float over them. I like that since i am not going for bombshell when I wear them. and I also accept the somewhat baggy bottom after a day of use, but that is part of the look ...I saw Mila Kunis in a movie the other day and she sported the same look and baggy bottom
