Further to Angie’s invitation to choose a colour and a word for 2022, I thought I’d share a visual. BLUE is my colour of the year, but I have a very specific blue in mind. I fell for the colour (pic #1) in late summer, and it never left my consciousness, even though I had no garments in that colour.

In November, full of HOPE and excitement, and feeling safe - I returned to the gym after an 18 month absence. I decided a mini kit refresh was in order and scored a warm-up jacket and leggings in the exact colour of BLUE that is my colour for 2022! Unfortunately gyms are closed once again, but I know that I will resume my fitness practice - I just HOPE it is sooner, rather than later!

Love the version in #2, which to my eye has a teeny bit of purple in it. Good luck with the gym—they’re open here, “only” issue is getting myself to brave the cold to get there. In summer I put on my gym clothes & go. Changing at the gym seems so. Much. Harder. Need to get there for the endorphins & metabolic boost, especially as “my” pool is closed for repairs.

Oh that is so pretty Carla, and very similar to my coat actually. I can visualize it with all your colours ... burgundy, warm white, etc. and it will look just fantastic. Plus it's so classic that any pieces will stand the test of time.

Love HOPE as a word ... and joining you in hoping the gyms open soon as I am going bonkers without mine

@ Helena - Yes! That is exactly the colour! I was very tempted to lemming when you posted about the coat last year. It’s perfection on so many levels.

China blue is a lovely color and will fit right in with your wardrobe all year round. I like HOPE as a word for this year as we hope that things will change for the better. I enjoyed reading about your choices and the ir meaning.

I love that colour, Carla -- it's a gorgeous blue. I wish you luck in finding more of it -- and also luck in getting back to the gym. Surely it can't be too long? (She says...with hope!)

Very pretty gym clothes - love the subdued elegance of it. Sorry your gyms are closed - we are feeling lucky ours are still open. Not that you'd know it by the lack of traffic these past 3 weeks.

Lisa P, I’m very surprised by that! I’ve heard that Jan 1 is the busiest day of the year for gyms, and many make a substantial portion of their profit for the year during the first few days of the year. But I think yours has more of a rehab/physical therapy emphasis, so that may explain the difference.

Now I’m inspired to head out now, wearing my nearly China blue leggings from Uniqlo (clearly not a current photo—green leaves! sigh). I haven’t been yet this year, but certainly hit the weights & pool in my home town during the ten days I was there.

I love blue in all it’s shade so l thoroughly approve of your choice.Hope is what we all need abit ofnow so another great choice.I hope that your gym reopens soon.Exercise is so important to mental well being as much as physical health.

I love the blue grey shade, in the UK this would probably be considered Wedgewood Blue.

SF , not to be a smart ass, but there’s this thing called Omicron that is ripping through our country and overwhelming the health care system. No one is doing much of anything anywhere . January is typically a big month for new members you’re right . But thankfully our business model doesn’t depend on daily fees .

LisaP, yep, omicron is everywhere. Here, they require us to show proof of vaccination every time we go into a “nonessential” establishment, such as a gym or restaurant, and to wear masks. There is a European app that registers vaccines and boosters—that’s what we have to show, along with an ID, to get in. Only pharmacists & doctors’ offices can enter info into the app. The business models to which I referred are monthly or annual memberships—people sign up in the first few days of the year, but most resolutions don’t even make it to day 19.

ETA on omicron—the feeling I’m getting from US and German sources is that omicron is less deadly, so lockdowns may not be called for. The idea of learning to live with the virus seems to be gaining strength.

Nice! That is exactly the color blue of my first real running shirt and over shirt set, which I got as a present for myself on my 50th birthday after one year of running. I loved that over shirt, but unfortunately after 16 years of regular wear, the zipper always stuck and the seam edges were fraying so I had to say goodbye. (The thinner shirt became a little unstylishly short long ago.)

I miss it. Most of my running tops now are purples, dark pinks and reds. I may have to go on a blue hunt myself.

Your blue looks like a new-for-spring Pantone color called Glacier Lake. See today’s Vivienne Files for picture . ( I thought I had a screen shot and will try again.

This is a gorgeous color - and I see how fresh and inspiring it can feel! It’s moody, yet not in a depressive way… I can’t explain it. Anyway, cheers to HOPE for 2022! HOPE that you get to return to the gym soon!
