Colorful French Manicures for fall - Yay or Nay

The 2010 YSL makeup collection for fall is offering a new twist on french manicures. The collection is called Rock and Baroque, and the duo nail polishes will be available in a special limited edition.

Some variations include:

red and fuchsia
purple and gold
purple and turquoise

So, what do you think? Trendy or not? Which colors do you like the best?

trendy with a capital T. but i love the purple and gold combo. i would wear it on my toes.

have you seen the reverse french mani where the half moons next to the nail bed are left light with a darker upper color?

Ah, a cunning ploy to help you buy two bottles of polish when you only need one;0)

It's not something I would attempt to do myself but in the hands of a professional it could look good. I prefer the purple/ gold combo.

I actually like this look, but think your nails would have to be really well-shaped for it to look good in real life. I personally don't really like regular French manicures, so I'm surprised that I like this. I think maybe I don't like regular French because I feel like it's trying to look like your natural nail, but since it isn't, it seems silly to me. In this case, it's clear you're not trying to fool anyone that these are your regular nails. I also really love all three of the color combinations.

Definitely trendy but I like it! Fun to do as a transition from summer to fall. I like the navy nail with the turquoise tip.

I think it's a fun look, but not really my thing. I paint toes but almost never my fingernails. With kids and pets, a manicure lasts less than 24 hours.

I really like it but I never grow my nails long enough for these types of manicures. As for the half-moon manicures, I adore them.

I like the purple and gold. But I work in healthcare so a manicure on me is short lived due to lots of handwashing.
I tried to get a halfmoon one once at the beauty school, she totally failed and admitted to me that she was just bad at manicures.

bj1111 - thanks for the link! I hadn't heard of reverse manicures.

Julie - I think you are on to something! Why buy one bottle when you can buy two!

Boof and Anna - I very rarely get manicures for the same reason. I am just too tough on my nails and they never last more than a day or two.

Khris - I've only seen this type of manicure once before. The manicurist at the salon where I go had her toe nails painted with Essie's Watermelon and the tips painted green.

Oh here they do the nude color on the nail bed, and a real color on the tips.

It looks fun but I can't imagine ever wearing it. I think for me if I wore it, I'd fall into the "she's trying too hard to be trendy" category.

My favorite is the red and fuschia. I think the others are too stark. Young women here have been doing this for a couple of years...but I have never seen these combinations.

It sounds like this is already trending in some places. I have a feeling we'll be seeing a lot more of this look on teens and young women this fall.

This seems to become popular every now and then. It's not for me at all and I put it in the same category as any sort of wildly decorated nail. But of course, I rarely sport painted nails anymore - too much upkeep at this moment in my life.

I love the red and fuschia combo! Although I would never try it because my nails are never ever long enough, plus I'd ruin it within 2 seconds and I'm not allowed to wear nail polish for work anyway.

Having said that I'm planning on getting a way overdue pedi tomorrow. Can't wait!!!

I love the purple and gold and will probably get that manicure for a ball or wedding (I have several coming up). I may try some different color combos though. This isn't something I would wear everyday and if I did it would need to be my major statement. Simple jewlery a must. I also like the manicures with color on just the tip. I've had this with really short nails & liked it.

I like it and think it would be perfect for a party! The purple and gold is my favorite. I could also see wearing this to a tailgate for football with either green and white or navy and gold. The more I consider this the more excited I am about it!

Cookie, what a fun way to sport your team colors when tailgating! For the Aussies and Brits - a tailgate is a party thrown at a sporting event before the game, usually in the parking lot. I remember the confusion over the term from this old post of mine;
