Color Palette - YouLookFab Forum

I was shopping for home goods at one of my favorite stores last weekend. Somehow this little picture came home with me. I'd been wanting something for the now blank wall in my closet, and I thought this was just right. I didn't know how right it was.

When I hung it up, I stepped back to admire how nice it looked next to my blush tote. And the scarves in the bin. And the bins themselves. And all of the skirts. And the tops and dresses and...

This pretty, inexpensive little acrylic-surface watercolor managed to capture all of my favorite saturated midtones of pink, blue, and green, and lighter and some darker tones of those same colors. All of these I wear and love. And it is grounded by touches of yellow, gray, and cognac/brown.

I couldn't have found a better representation of my color palette if I'd tried. It doesn't include the burgundy and black that goes into my wardrobe in cool weather, but those are not favorites the way the other colors are. It's hard to find winter-weight clothing in light greens and blues, or saturated pinks.

Ahhhhhh, that's such a visually pleasing image! My closet is too small to hang up some art, but maybe someday when I live in an apartment with a good size closet again I'll take a page out of your book. Maybe a crisp winter scene with pops of red, green, and blue...

judy, it really does! I thought the picture was cute, nothing about it I didn't like, and it was very affordable. I didn't realize how absolutely perfect it was until I actually hung it up.

Thank you, karen13, and I hope it helps. I don't always combine them together, but this expresses my favorites really well. My style is neutral light and sometimes that's hard to convey. What sorts of colors/tones are you trying to incorporate?

How fun and fabulous is that!
You know there are outfit challenges based on paintings, or photos of the garden or such.

Ginger - I wear have always worn dark jewel tones, mostly greens and blues, and navy and added some burgundy last fall/winter. This summer I added quite a bit of turquoise, aqua and teal. I think I may need to add mid and lighter colors for interest, and need to find some paler blues, greens and maybe even (gasp) pinks that don't wash me out or look muddy.

Ginger, it looks lovely. Thank you for inspiring me to do something similar in my own closet.

Besides, as Jenn mentioned, when shopping for new clothes and accessories, it would be helpful to remember a picture with one's favourite colours. Just got an idea: When I have found "my" picture, in addition to hanging it in my closet, I will take photos of the picture & my closet (like the ones shown here) and keep them on my cell phone for quick references when evaluating colours.
