Color inspiration?

Just curious. Where do you find inspiration for color combining or mixing? Anyone have sources or is is more of an organic process for you?

I find I get obsessed with a certain color palette for a bit then bored then switch it out. If I could turn off my obsessive habit it would save me from the boredom right?

I have been trying to get less organic and more intentional, since organically I have been very boring!

Inspiration has been from YLF, some other blogs, InStyle mag. I tended to just look at top+ bottom and was not bringing in another color in footwear or necklace or something and not figuring out what was complementary. After looking at photos more, I began to "see" the extra colors & textures in use. I don't spend much total time carrying a handbag or even wearing my own toppers so I finally realized that footwear, necklace, & belts are my main options.

Same as unfrumped - YLF, blogs, InStyle. But also I'll get color combos from art (paintings, photographs, even billboards and ads), and nature (birds, sunsets, animals, landscapes, gardens). It's interesting that although I garden, and combine flower and foliage colors, I haven't been using that much for outfit inspiration. Maybe I will more in the future as I move away from black, if possible. I think it may be because I have been dressing conservatively and with a fair amount of neutrals, that I need the photos of actual wardrobe items--shoes and belts and jewelry--because I may want to still use a lot of neutrals, but combine more of them and in more interesting ways.

I agree with unfrumped - I think it is more difficult to put together an interesting neutral outfit than one with a lot of color. You can use color as your interesting factor, and just pull a combo off a computer screen or magazine page, whereas with neutrals you really need texture and details and great fabrications to take you from blah to wow, which is a different approch from just grabbing a few complimentary colors. Probably why I am dressed like a peacock most of the time.

This may be a lazy way of finding inspiration, but I usually begin with a print or a multi-colored piece of jewelry that I find attractive. Then, I use that piece to pull together everything else.

There are probably other websites out there like colourlovers.com. I suggested this one because it's been around for a while. I remember browsing there off and on several years ago.

Colour doesn't factor largely in my wardrobe and I really prefer neutrals so for example my colour palette is black, white, grey and navy. I do from time to time crave colour and tend to bring that through in my accessories. My inspiration will come from lot's of different place but I am a prolific blog reader so I would say blogs and pinterest provide a lot of inspiration for me.
