Color Combos...how does Asingh do it?

I have an unexpected half hour free and decided to play. Since I'm having so much fun with my new winter closet I thought I'd try an Asingh inspired color combo experiment. This shade of green is decent on me...not my best probably but okay. The green I can't do is anything with a drop of yellow, or too cool toned teal. I decided to make my experiment with this sweater because I don't have any scarf with this green.

Well, I don't know what I'm doing! Asingh, how do you pull off those color combinations and look so perfectly intentional? I'm afraid my attempts look too random!

1) Probably my favorite... because purple of course. And I have earrings with green and purple to tie it together. However...blast from the past! Too late 80's?

2) Christmas? But the scarf has black, so it bookends the pants?

3) No, I don't think so! Maybe? Too close on the color wheel?

Not committed to any of these, just playing. Trying to learn...teach me Asingh!!

She does have the knack doesn't she! I think you got it in #1 - high contrast, looks beautiful and deliberate to me. I agree #3 is not working as well, not only are the colours next door on the wheel but the intensities of the colours is the same. It's more of a tonal look.. might work well with jeans in a medium rinse, or pants in a neutral microcheck? Dunno. I think in #2 the scarf already has ALGO and I personally wouldn't be trying to work it into a colour contrast outfit.

Absolutely LOVE #1… colors look gorgeous on you. I even like #3 as more of a tonal look. I think Asingh would approve.

Disclaimer: this is based on what I can see on my monitor. Since I see things differently on my work monitor than on my home, I know that different monitors can present things very differently. So, with that caveat, I like #1 and #3, but I can see what you mean. I think #1 works okay, but would work even better if it were an even darker purple. I think #2 doesn't work because the green and red are too close in depth. I think #3 works the best of all of them, to my eye and with my monitor, but would work better if it were a lighter blue. Having that value/intensity change often helps. As the colors get nearer in darkness/lightness, it gets trickier to pair them because they're close to being the same, but not quite, and that not-quite match is jarring. And I just think color is Asingh's super power. She's crazy wicked awesome at it.

Also, off topic, but...Peri, you really know which colors look great on you! All of these colors are absolutely beautiful with your skin and hair. Gorgeous!

I love #1 - YLF.
My two cents worth on the others IMO the scarf in #2 looks a little "heavy" with the top. #3 I think the colours would look great together if they were both clear or both muted the clear scarf is making the knit look dirty rather than soft

I ended up wearing the first one and liking it quite a bit. Who cares if it is 80's?!

I understand about a bump's worth on the tip of the iceberg of color theory though. I'm surprised at the acceptance of #3 because that is the one I'm most confused about! But I don't really know the terms...K. Period, value, intensity? Caro...clear, muted? It's like I can see that I like #1 more than #2 & 3 but can't say why! "I don't know about art, I just know what I like!"

#1 & #3 are totally Asingh worthy!

Love #1! #3 also has a nice calm, peaceful feeling that I really like. I think, re: #2, that green and red are tricky together because it's hard not to bring Christmas to mind.

I see am alone with liking nr 2 far best:-), because of the neutrals, bookending(hair and pants), splash of bright white (always striking) and the pattern which give some more interest! I don't see it Xmassy as the shades are completely others than usually used for Xmass.
I say an uni scarf is going better perhaps with a more tailored outfit, (like Asingh's last one posted).

I don't know Asingh yet but am looking forward to learning from her since I'm not so great with combining colors.

I think Asingh has the large closet and absolute confidence to do this well!

But you can do it, too. I actually really like #1 and while #3 isn't perfect (for the reason Caro stated), it's a pretty cool idea. But usually it's all a bit easier when you combine a pattern with a solid. There, the "matches" don't have to be so exact.
