Color and Size advice: post-NAS Nordstrom Order

Hi all,

I recently placed a large Nordstrom order (missed NAS, alas) and would love some feedback on items.

I ordered two scarves, one in burgundy and one in blush. The burgundy I like a lot. The blush is less obviously flattering to my eye, because it’s two things I’m not used to: a pale color, and a large scale print. So I’d love your expertise: does it look ok with my coloring? Or had I better stick with the darker option?

I also ordered a pair of wide-legged Topshop navy trousers, pictured below. Alas, too small. I love the feel of the fabric and the wide leg silhouette makes me feel fab. But they fit too tightly across the hips! I’m contemplating ordering a size up, but I wonder if the waist will just be way too big then? Is that something I could easily have altered? Or should I keep looking?

Also got Zella leggings after seeing them recommended here. Love them!

P.S. Forgive my horrific selfie skills. Photography is not a specialty of mine. Also, were I to get a larger size of the Topshop trousers, they would need drastic hemming—wearing my tallest heals in these photos!

Actually, I prefer the pink scarf to the burgundy. Fresh and pretty with your skin tone.

Order a size up on the TS pants. Waists and hems are easily alterable.

You have a lovely smile too.

Angie, I’m finding as I look at the pictures that I totally agree—pink it is!
I’ll size up in the trousers and see how they work. So thrilled at all the wide leg styles available this season!

I like both scarves on you. Pink for spring/summer, and burgundy for fall/winter! Sorry I can't see the pants too clearly, I'll defer to Angie's good advice.

Taking in the waist is an easy alteration. I had to do it all the time when I wore dress clothes, and I also had to have some of them hemmed because they were for wear with lower heels. I always found it to be well worth the little bit of investment to get an almost perfect fit

The pink scarf is beautiful on you and a nice contrast with darker colours. I love the style of these pants and so I think the minor alterations will be well worth it - they really look like they will be workhorses and if you get the pants hemmed, you can decide upon what your favourite heel height is rather than having to wear your tallest heels.

total agree re pink scarf......as to the pants, yes order up and have altered. i end up having around 80% of my pants and jeans altered...so worth it

Thanks, everyone! The consensus gives me a great boost of style confidence. Can’t wait to wear the scarf, and to keep building my blush complement.

I’m sizing up in the trousers and will plan to keep and alter so long as the fit through the hip and leg looks good.

Planning to place a big order of tops and dresses with Boden this week, which should take care of most of my F/W shopping!

Love burgundy but cf to the blush and your coloring and hair—I like the lighter tone. Doesn’t hurt to try the next size up, could always have the pants shortened. Comfort is our friend.’

I think both scarves look great, but the pink one seems to brighten up your face. I would definitely try the pink, since it's something you're not used to...it can be really fun to experiment.

Another vote for blush, but both are good!
