I am loving some of these hats! I don't really think in terms of accessory trends, but maybe I ought to!

This is the one I’ve ordered :

NancyW I don’t know, when i lived in Charlotte they canceled school because it was going to be freezing and they didn’t want the kids to have to wait outside for the bus….by freezing they meant it was going to be 32F/0C, so i assume those hats would probably be worn when the temperatures drops below 50F/10C.
And now I’m thinking i need one of hood/scarfs/buff things.

Kkards, my son and some of his friends were shocked by how chilly it was the morning of their first-ever day of high school. They are wearing sweatshirts in photos marking the occasion. It was 72 degrees. I don’t remember hats that day in August, but feelings of warmth/cold are all relative & a person can reset their body thermostat. These days he thinks 70 is warm.

If my temps got cold, I would want a faux fur hat - Lara from Dr Zhivago is a timless style icon.

I have seen some open sided vests at Cos which would be great at layering. Here's an example - I think it would be a great find for you!

I am really liking the idea of the faux fur bucket hat - thank you to those who posted it! I am following this post with great interest!

I am not well informed about the trends in this particular area. I am on a mission to get a bunch of berets in different colors to round up my complements as I have concluded that beanies do not look good on me- small head and other factors.

@ Suz - I’m thinking being a little trendy with winter accessories is a relatively inexpensive way of updating standard winter wear and having a little fun with fashion.

The hoodies and bucket hats are intriguing! I think they might work better with glasses, then the beanie/tuque style.

Kkards, I have noticed that the down comes out at temperatures 20 degrees warmer than I would think necessary! However, most of my life has been lived in the snow belt of Upstate NY and in Massachusetts. When I pulled out the parka it was the beginning of wearing it until March, so I waited until as late in the fall as possible. New climate, new mindset, even if it takes me 3-5 years to adjust.

I used to wear berets, but find I really need to protect my ears when it is really cold and windy.

I am on the lookout for a decent looking hat with ear flaps. "Decent looking" is a relative term. I have a green one with faux fur lined ear flaps that makes my husband cringe every time I wear it but that keeps my ears toasty warm on winter walks. And we walked almost every day last winter.

I'm hoping to find one to work with my new long burgundy puffer.

My green one looks a bit like the photo below. I've seen them called trapper hats, aviator hats... In any case, a non-trendy (timeless??) silly looking super warm Winnpeg walking hat in burgundy or burnt orange is on my wish list.

I am not sure what is trending, but I have these (in pics) from Tilley on my radar.

I’ve had a wool ranch hat, and a herringbone newsboy cap on my list for a couple of years. Have not found “the ones” yet.

Funny about the mindsets towards about accessories—I tend to get annoyed when they wear out “too quickly”.
