A couple of months ago I posted here http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ac-disease that I may have celiac disease. I got the results of the endoscopy today and learnt that I do indeed definitely have it. I'll be going back to all the helpful advice you gave me then! Thanks!

Anne, I dare say those are good news - at least you know you have it. Many people can spend a lifetime not knowing, because the symptoms can be so vague or generic that even their doctors don't suspect it.

Please don't worry a second. We are here. Honestly, as soon as your energy levels recover, you won't think once that gluten-free life is difficult.

Just ask about whatever seems like a puzzle

Anne, there are lots of great recipes on this food blog: http://www.elanaspantry.com/ Apparently Elana's whole family has celiac disease.

It's time-consuming and difficult to change eating habits in such a fundamental way, but keep us posted on how you're doing!

If you can't get hold of the Ceoliac Society Ingredient list book I have an (old) spare I can send to you- it is small enough to keep in your bag when you go grocery shopping.

My grandmother didn't learn she had it until she was in her 70's. All those years of being sick that could have been easily prevented. Anyway, I'm sure you'll be feeling better now that you know what to stay away from. Good luck!

Anne, I'm sorry for the news but also glad that this gives you the information you need to hopefully feel better. At least now, as opposed to ten years ago, there are a lot of options in the natural food stores for those with celiac. So I'm hoping you'll be able to find tasty alternatives for whatever you can't have.

I didn't feel unwell before the diagnosis so if I do feel better it will be a bonus!

Wow...you say you didn't feel unwell before the diagnosis? After starting the gluten-free diet you may be surprised at how well you DO feel. I was diagnosed 24 years ago and feel I have amassed quite a bit of information, tips and hints about living gluten free. If I can ever be of any assist I'm only an e-mail away. Best wishes as you start your journey into a gluten-free life. I've been gluten free for a while by choice. You'll still have amazing food available to you. If you search for paleo or whole 30 recipes, you'll be amazed at how many delicious recipes pop up. Pinterest is a wonderful source for recipes. Good luck!

Anne, I can't remember if I wrote on your other thread or not, but my sympathies to you. I just finished a book on Celiac's disease and apparently some people are asymptomatic. Did you get tested because a family member was diagnosed with it?

I've not been tested, partly because I've been off gluten for so long that I'd have to eat a bunch of it for several weeks--maybe months-- to make sure the test was accurate, and I'm just not willing to ever eat it again because it makes me so miserable. I'm completely grain free right now, and I've never felt better. I hope you have a smooth transition to the GF lifestyle. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Claire I was anaemic a few months ago (which in itself was only picked up because I had tried to donate blood) and celiac came up as a positive in all the blood tests I got to try to work out why. So that was the only sign.

My main worry (now I have had a few months to research, follow up recs and think it over) is the whole hospitality thing - going over to other people's houses. Because while people easily grasp not eating bread or pasta (except for gluten free types) the tiny amounts in so many other foods are less obvious. I think we'll be find eating at home.

I agree that you should look at this as good news. When I start feeling sorry for myself about my gluten intolerance (not near as bad as celiac) I try to remind myself of how miserable I was before I figured it out and to focus on being grateful that I know how to feel better. Lucky for us there are so many good resources out there now. Good luck and share any really good products/ideas you come up with!
