I purchased a jar of organic coconut oil in Las Vegas the last time I was there as I heard it was a great moisturizer. I didn't use it too much until recently when I started putting in my bath to moisturize my legs which were flaking horribly from the cold dry winter. It left my skin feeling soft and smooth. I noticed I was going through it quickly so started looking around for local sources but was unsuccessful so I was thinking about ordering it from amazon. Earlier this week I saw a segment on Dr. Oz during which they discussed the healthy benefits of coconut oil in the diet that result from it being a medium chain triglyceride. It hadn't even occurred to me that I could eat it or cook with it.
I went to Costco later that day and had time so went down many aisles I would normally skip. I found a 1.5kg tub of organic cold pressed coconut oil. Yippee. While at the cash register, the bagger, cashier and I started talking about the oil and they were both raving about how great it was for hair and skin. Last night, I tried it on a piece of toast and it was really good. This morning I put a tsp. in my steel cut oats and that was good too. I read that studies have shown that 1-2 tbsp per day can also help with weight loss. Here is a link:
