I just bought this really pretty green lace dress to wear to a fancy cocktail party hosted by my husband's company (it'll be at the Seattle Aquarium!):

I'm really excited about it because...it makes me feel really good...pretty, even! It does what a nice dress should do. I'd like to find a clutch to carry that evening, but everything I saw in the stores today wasn't right...they were too blingy, too black, too something. Any suggestions?

I like the idea of silver, but then I love silver lol. Not glittery, just a solid metallic.

So pretty - that colour will be fab on you I was going to suggest fairly plain metallic too or a deeper blue/green soft leather clutch.

For less expensive options, I recommend a plain metallic, too.

I LOVE that dress. So feminine. It looks as though the lining is quite light in color, so silver seems right to me too.

Amy, you will look gorgeous in this dress. What shoes will you be wearing? I would consider that when looking for a clutch. I could see a simple metallic one working. Or how about something like these from Zara?

#1 is elegant and compliments the the lady like vibe of the dress.

#2 is a more of a contrast of modern against the dress that has a subtle Mad Men vibe. But the animal print mimics the lace of the dress.

I would probably go for something very simple and plain so that it is not competing with the beautiful lace. What colour shoes are you going to wear? I think I would match the bag to those (but I confess a weakness for matchy-matchy)

Lovely dress Amy. I think a simple soft metallic clutch would be perfect but black would work too. I like a pewter type of finish as it isn't as bright as silver or gold.

Thanks ladies. I am currently planning on wearing nude pumps, although am not sure about the ones I purchased. I tried on dozens of pumps and found many of them unbearably uncomfortable. The ones I ended up bringing home aren't as aesthetically pleasing to me as some others. I'm going to continue looking...

I tend to be playful, so I like the idea of "christmas-izing" the dress with cranberry clutch and shoes. I also fancy a warm brown. It would be a lovely woodland pairing, and would bookend your chestnut bob.

Amy, I really like this dress and it is perfect for a Seattle cocktail party. I agree that the clutch should play second fiddle to the dress. In your search, don't overlook Target...they often have cute, stylish accessories that look much more expensive than their price...but if you want an investment purse (if you're going to be attending more cocktail parties) then just ignore my suggestion. Have fun, you'll look terrific!

Beautiful dress and it must be stunning with your coloring and hair. I am leaning toward metallic and ideally rose gold with this. But of course the one I liked seems elusive now.

Amy, what about something like snakeskin? Maybe a bit crazy, but I know you can pull it off...it would be sort of like pattern mixing, only texture-mixing. You could do a cream and black snakeskin shoe and matching bag...

Joy has this bag in the graphite, I believe. It's also available in snake, and I have it in a colorblocked neutral and I really like it. It's real leather, and large for a clutch. It can be used for daytime as well.

ETA: Oops, I just remembered Joy's clutch has a gold buckle, so hers must be a different metallic. Nordstrom and Zappos have them in a ton of colors.
