Cocktail dresses, do you see me wearing any of this?

So, the invitation arrived and the wedding will be at 5:00 pm in a fancy hotel.I assume this means cocktail dress for me( correct me if I am wrong).
I am beginning to look at dresses and found this ones at Nordstrom ,

Oooh, those are all beautiful gowns. I wouldn't classify them as 'cocktail' dresses, though! I usually think of cocktail being non-floor-length (knee or midi). Anyway! It's hard to decide, because they would all look fab on you, but I think I'm leaning toward either of the purple!

But are you sure about dress code requiring a coctail dress or rather full evening gown, as I think they are a bit different....curious what others say. (sorry for double posting:-))

I think of cocktail as short dress but similar to what you picked. The long gown seems formal. Do you know the couple or family of couple that you could confer with?
The long ones you picked are beautiful - especially like #2 and 3

I agree that full-length is different from cocktail. Do the invitations specify "black tie"? Generally a full length gown is only necessary if the invitiations state black tie, white tie or say formal somewhere. Of course, if you are comfortable in a full-length dress, then there shouldn't be an issue. Any of these dresses are beautiful, and none of them ought to be truly out of place (depending on the wedding location, anyway - rural areas tend to be less dressy than cities, and the midwest tends to be more casual than the east coast with the exception of some Chicago weddings). I like the styles of the first and second best, and I love the colour of the second dress.

Echoing the others to say I'd have thought cocktail would be a shorter dress; but you can ask someone about that.

All those dresses are gorgeous. I love the idea of one-shoulder on you. It will really depend on the fit - any could look spectacular.

Sorry for keeping you hanging .You raised a good question. the invitation only says the place, hour and that there is a reception after.
There will be a wedding shower in a few weekends. And I will politely inquire about this.

I like your second choice of the shorter dresses, and Christieanne's suggestion, too. Of the long dresses, I prefer the third. The second seems a bit "bridesmaid" to me. Of course, it depends on how they fit, as they would all look great on you.
