coats for petite hourglass

I've been trying to find a stylish winter coat, a wool one. I have searched high and low to no avail.

My problems are twofold: a) I'm 5'4" so coats are usually too long, and the waist hits below where it should, and b) I'm very busty, so if something fits in the shoulders it doesn't fit across the chest and vice versa.

There are a few places in my city that have a small handful of petite coats, but are all either double-breasted ( no good for me) or just plain old 'cheap and nasty' as they say...

Anyone else have this type of issue? Should I just resign myself to a less-than-fab winter coat?

Do you have a Macy's near you? I'm built similar to you and I found a HUGE selection of petite coats at my local Macy's and was able to find a couple that fit very nicely.

How about a swing coat as they are supposed to fit a bit more voluminous? It will probably need to be cropped to avoid swamping you x

Oh Felicia I feel for you....I'm in the same boat 100%. I have been longing for a red single breasted coat for ages and can't find a good one. Macy's does have some petites, but the selection is rather scant by me as well. (always on-line). I did buy a coat at landsend.com but didn't like the way it flared out on me. My sister keeps saying Nordstroms, but I haven't been. Let me know what you come up with....I feel your pain!

I think I'm just going to wait until next winter and start looking early, so every coat out there can be tried on in my size. That's what I have to do to find boots that fit me.

I think one of the secrets, too, Bianca, is to try for coats that are cut straight up and down, sort of like duffel coats, as they don't then have issues with the waist hitting in to wrong place.

You're right, Louise, I have a fall coat that's a swing style, it totally works for me.

My Macy's didn't have much for petites.. and all boring black/brown/camel colors. I finally found one by London Fog regular and they seemed to fit me perfectly! I am 5'4 just like you, but high waisted. Don't give up!

I had the same problem. Petite and busty and all the coats are double breasted! I understand your problem.. My advice is to not give up and continue looking, I found recently a great one at Massimo Dutti (I know..not a big help, I'm in Europe...) very fitted at the waist and not too long.

I wound up buying this coat, in grey.

It's cut so generously in the bust that I was able to buy the size six, thus causing the shoulders and hems to all work out. It's good quality, and for some reason it was only $150, too. They don't have it in red, Bianca, but you might like it anyways..

I'm glad you found one! For future reference, Burlington Coat Factory has some nice petite coats. I don't know if you can order from them or not, but thought I'd let you know just in case.
