So after all the looking, ordering, agonizing, and returning, I ended up with the coat Angie recommended at the beginning: the JCrew retail cocoon coat. I bought it at a somewhat local store (Portland) that had 25percent off all full priced items, even this coat - which has been excluded from online promos so far. Bonus! I love the fit of this coat; it's perfect. I really should have listened to Angie. It's an interesting shape, long enough and warm. Beautifully made. Much, much, much better quality than the factory version.
Question though: is the color soul-sucking? I had wanted a neutral because my peacoat is bright pink. Does this work on me?
