Coated jeans: Have I lost my mind?

These are the coated jeans I picked up the other day at the Rack. I have to say they are the most comfortable pants I've ever put on. Washable too. I hiked up the sweater to show the waist fit--I would never wear anything tucked into these. Do I look like I'm wearing waders and about to go fly fishing or are these okay? I'd love your honest opinion. Thanks in advance!

Haha! Waders for fly fishing are much, much looser. I think you look great in these.

I can't see the pic yet (still too new a member), but I was wondering if anyone knows what coated jeans are coated with. I have been considering buying a pair myself but am wondering if they would make a person sweat because of the coating. Anyone have any info?

I think they are great!
I have waxy jeans, and they don't stay quite as shiny - they will soften and "dull" down a bit

Good question. I will have to read the label. The jeans themselves are 98% cotton and 2 % spandex. I'm not sure if there will be a breathability issue. I thought they would be good for winter though--keep the cold winds out. Perhaps some one who has actually worn coated denim will chime in and enlighten both of us

I have some and find them to be very light and cool- they are a cotton-poly-elastine material.
Yours look more substantial though, and might be better in cooler conditions.

Very nice! It looks like they are not quite skinny, more of a straight leg, and I think this makes them more versatile. They seem to fit you really well. What brand are these?

The jeans look great and about as far as you can get from men's hip waders. Pants and jeans love you and you need to love them back.

They look great on you, Kelly! They'll add some nice textural interest and go with all sorts of things. It's great that you found some that are washable, too, because a lot of them aren't.

These look great on you, Kelly! If they are comfy, I say go with them. I have one pair of reversible coated jeans that I wear in the winter. They are warmer than my other jeans but still breathe. I actually tend to wear them on the non-coated side, but they are super comfy either way and I like them.

You look great! I would not even hesitate to wear them, no fly fishing vibe at all. I have no luck with coated jeans. Even following directions, they get dewaxed and fuzzy! I tried to rewax with otter wax and that was a bust too. I have better luck with faux coated jeans.

I got these exact same jeans last weekend! Still in tags, but will try to do a WIW - I definitely went snugger, but you look great in these. Hmmm, maybe shoudl go back and try the size up, just in case. They ARE amazingly comfy! I did read reviews on the current version at Nordies that say they stretch with wear and several reviewers suggesting sizing down. Do a search on NYDJ on the current offering.

I also do not plan to tuck. I got a long sweater to go with them. I also like the thought of styling them with my military jacket
with faux leather trim on shoulders.

@Caro, annaj, lyn D,: Thanks you. I don’t think these are waxed--they are coated with something. I was hesitant to buy waxed because I read that they attracted all kinds of animal fur and I have a white cat.

@Deborah: I can totally see you in coated jeans.

@Makrame: I think they are suppose to be a skinny--just not so much on me and the size I chose. They have zips at the ankle. The brand is NYDJ and the style is the Angelina, I think. I searched for pics on line and those look the most like them.

@Suz: Thanks! The barrier seems like it work whether it was on the inside or out.

@Nicole: IKWYM about waxed. I think waxed would require more careful cleaning. These have some kind of faux coating that I think seems pretty permanent. I will be careful with them though!

@Laurie: Lol! Hey coated jean, Twin! I really wasn’t sure of the fit. I don’t like tight and I don’t think the size down would have fit in the waist. As it is, I sized down a couple sizes. The NYDJ measurement chart is accurate for me though. I will check out the current model although I read lots of reviews about stretching out and rarely have that problem (Gap comes to mind.) I can’t wait to see yours and your styling ideas in action!

The coated denim looks great on you! I was thinking about adding a pair to my wardrobe, but I thought they might feel stiff. Since you said they're comfortable, I might just have to give them a go.
