OK Fabbers - you were of immense help to me in deciding whether to keep my existing coats (you helped me decide to donate the camel one.) now for the next round : new ones from J Crew!
These ones were tried in in the yellow light of my bedroom, so the colours read a little warmer than in natural light. I'll try a natural light photo session when I have some time.
Options :
1: cocoon coat in Lavender (enabled by the lovely Suz and Angie) - I never thought I could wear this colour but I must confess that I am loving it. The colour is heathered and a little cooler in person (which I actually think whirls better for me.) yes? No?

2) the parka in grey - this is one I love and planned to buy since last year. I want a neutral colour and I love the grey. I've tried on both the 2 and the 4 here. Can you see a huge difference? I'm inclined to keep the 4 for me room in the arms. Keep? Or no?

3) this one was a wildcard - but I think I love it. The red wool trench. I like the fit and the colour is more blue red in person. This would replace my existing dressy red coat.

Thoughts? Keep none? One? Or (gasp!) all? My existing coats are old but I'll only get rid of them if these are markedly better/fresher.

I like the lavender color on you a lot. I don't love the grey parka as much as you do, but if you love it, I prefer the smaller size because the shoulders look too wide in the other. The red trench is quite elegant -- is it warm enough for the purposes for which you need it? I ask because I tried a wool J Crew trench a couple of years back and ultimately decided to pass because I did not think it was warm enough to be a winter coat.

I'm having a hard time with the grey one because of the fur. While the grey might be a great color on you, it's hard to tell because the fur is not a great color for you or for the coat. The coat looks really cute otherwise. I love that type of coat. The lavender one is obviously a great color. I'm not great at telling sizing from a picture. I would really hate not getting a coat big enough for layering, though.

Well, I think they all look killer stunning!

The red one is so gorgeous I am tempted to order it myself and I have zero need for a red wool trench. (I already have a red wool coat I love, for heaven's sake, albeit a completely different style.) Wow.

Meanwhile, of course I love the lavender. It really is stunning on you and you are tempting me to order it after all. (I decided against adding to my coat capsule until I know when I'm moving.) It does seem a bit wrinkled from the box so might need a steam.

As for the grey, I really like it as well. I don't agree that the fur doesn't work. I'm not sure about the size. Are you wearing the layers you would normally wear underneath?

Another question -- do you want to add 3 coats to your wardrobe in one year? Since coats are rather long lasting in my closet (and I think in yours also) I tend to like to buy one or two each year rather than all at once, and then retire any that need it in a sort of rotating fashion. Having said that, anyone who lives in Toronto deserves a large coat capsule and you could justify any number if the budget will allow!

What Suz said. They all look fab. I would get the size 4 in the hooded coat as I don't see much difference in the size and would want room for layering. I want that red coat! I also liked the red coat in your first post. It is very elegant on you. But if it is worn to need to be replaced, this one is a good choice. If you keep just one, keep the lavender one.

Well I love the furry grey and I'm astonished at how well you do lavender! I love the color of the red although it reads longer than it should for where the waist is to my eye.

I love the grey parka. I can't tell what the sizing is like from the picture but both look good to me.

The grey parka is my favorite. I'm keeping its sister in emerald Green. This coat looks lovely on you. I'm not at all bothered by the color of the fur as someone else said. The shape, the detail, the fit, the entire look, it all works well on you. This one is beautiful. The red is also gorgeous on you. I see both of these as more in keeping with your style somehow. If you can afford all three, the lavender is okay, but my least favorite by maybe 30%. The selling point for me here is more the color than the style. The color is lovely.

These all look awesome to me, all keepers if it's within your budget. The red trench is my favorite, and I think it is an upgrade in fit and style from your old one. The grey is my second favorite, and I love the color of the lavender but the cut/fit is not quite as stand-out as the other two. Thanks for modeling the grey chateau parka -- I'm considering the emerald green one too, and this is very helpful.

I agree with Suz and just wanted to add that I really, really like your old red coat too. I don't think you need a replacement for that one (and I love the black belt you are wearing with it).

I like all 3 of these but if I had to pick I would say the lavender is my favorite. I like the red, to me it is a more current version of your old red one. I can't tell a difference in the sizes of the gray one, I personally would go larger for the extra room.

I'm partial to the style of the grey one and the red one on you. The lavender -- I like the color on you, but something about the cut seems to overwhelm you a bit.

Thanks so much everyone for the honest and candid feedback! So appreciate you taking the time to weigh in on this.

Ummlila - yes, I totally hear you and the red trench not being warm enough was one of my fears (the reviews on it last year were not great, calling it rough and not warm.) They seem to have switched it up this year amd it is as warm as the other coats and I didn't find it rough - in fact - I liked it a lot more than I thought I would.

Suz - such a smart point and I have been wondering the same thing. As I have said before, I tend to overbuy, and I don't want to end up with too many coats and then have to miss out on one I love next year.

La Pedestrienne, Staysfit, Janet - I think I agree with you in that I love the colour of the lavender, but not sure about the cut. This might be the one to go. La Pedestrienne Im glad it was helpful! One thing i would say is that the parka is a-line, so best for pear shapes.

Joy, Suz - glad to hear you like my old red coat too as I wondered if this was looking dated (as RobinF said.) Hmm...this makes the decision even harder!

I hope Angie will weigh in. I'm wondering if you could have sized down in the lavendar coat. Did you buy online or in store?

LOVE THEM ALL. Killer, Roxana. I'm inclined to say no sizing down. Snug coats are a bad idea, especially on the sleeves. Keep the larger size, and make sure ALL YOUR LAYERS WORK UNDERNEATH THEM.

My absolute favourite on you is the light grey with the faux fur. You are DAZZLING in that coat.

You can't go wrong with any of these purchases.

@Angie - thank you so much! I was hoping you would say that Now to see what the wallet says good call on the Lavender. Honestly, it's my favourite colour in the world and I never would have tried it on. It will go so well with my grays and blushes.

I'm so with you in sizing up. There is nothing WORSE than a winter coat that is constricting bc of too-small sleeves.

The lavender really does look too big to me.

Oh, and I can't see a difference between the 2 and the 4 in the grey. I'd get the bigger one, unless the back is really big on the 4.

My fav here is the grey coat. You look AMAZING in it!

And while I really like the lavender coat, it doesn't have the *WOW* factor of the grey. I can't exactly explain 'why' though.

The red is killer elegant too.
