Looks like I'm not the only keener for a puffer coat hunt! Land's End has doubled its stock in a week.

I would like to compare two new styles they've added to the LB puffer coat that Angie has in the store. Many of you have indicated the LB coat ought to be my gold standard. It would be my choice if it were still available, and calls to the store indicate it won't be for the upcoming season. GRRR! So on with the show.

If I can't have the LB coat, are either of these worthy to take its place? If I got one of these, would I just be settling for an 8 rating? If so I'll keep looking, but if one of them clocks in at a 9.5 or 10, I'm on it.

i really like the chevron coat. the narrower chevrons at the waist give an illusion of a narrow waist. i like that the hood is detachable. the faux fur framing the face is actually really cute here with a variegated brown color.

it's very reminiscent of the north face puffer jacket that's knee length.

I like the quilting better on the Chevron one. Plus it's rated for lower temperatures. But I'd still hold off a while on buying.

The first one is the best out of the two. It had diagonal detailing whereas the second has horizontal and vertical stripes which don't look so good IMO x

I couldn't figure out why I liked the chevron better than the luxe until I read the other's comments. Ah, now I see To me the chevron is more polished and sophisticated looking. The luxe just seems like a play in the snow coat for some reason.

I love the chevron coat for you...I'm just not sold on belting a bulky coat...it's never worked on me.

Definitely the chevron! Very pretty. The luxe parka is too short.

I like them both, but the parka looks like it would be too short--maybe about mid-thigh, while the chevron looks like it would come to the knee. It's tough to tell how bulky the coat is because there are no photos with a model, whereas the LB coat is worn by an actual human.

Have you thought about which color you might like? I love that it comes in some interesting shades, and I would strongly lobby for you wearing the dark sapphire--I think it would look beautiful with your coloring. I thought I might like the aubergine for you, but it looks a little more brown than eggplant on my screen.

Another vote for the chevron ~ I think it meets a lot of your requirements and would be flattering to boot. I think both LE coats would be a lot warmer than the LB one, but then I can't read any info on the LB one to know for sure. It does get a wee bit chilly where you are, Michelle!

I honestly don't get the point of short down coats. If it is cold enough to wear a parka, you definitely need something that reaches at least your knees and the second one vote. So another vote for the first coat here.

Excellent! So in terms of LE coats, the chevron is the runaway winner. Suits me...it's the one that sounded best.
So how does it stack up against the LB coat in terms of look and styling details?

It's actually fairly close. The LB coat also has a chevron texture, but it is belted. The lack of a belt on the Lands End one is actually not a bad thing because it has definition at the waist.

I also like the sapphire color. So much better than boring black, but not as scary as white.

The LE Chevron has a lot going for it, even compared to the LB one. The pockets on the Lands End are hidden by zippers into a seam whereas on the Lane Bryant they are patch pockets right on the front of where thighs would be. So the LE one is sleeker in that sense. The quilting lines on the Chevron really accentuate the waist definition. Plus it comes in that lovely blue (my first choice for you) and aubergine.

Love the LE Chevron. This could be your puffer coat, Michelle.

I really like black puffer coats actually. Especially when they have trim. I chose to go with black this time round after my cream one went to puffer heaven.

I vote chevron too. My puffer coat is black. It's a nice change for me since my other winter coat is really bright yellow.
