Clutches and mini handbags ( for Sterling)

This is a hopefully fun post to enable Sterling! These are all my clutches acquired over about 40 years.
1. Mum’s vintage bag, maybe from the 50s or 60s?
2. The first one I bought myself, aged 18, to tone with a turquoise/green floral jersey dress I sewed myself for the medical school ball in 1979. Went with my 2-years older medical student boyfriend and was VERY proud of myself!
3. Cream clutch I bought for matching shoes and a cream silk dress for my qualification ball aged 23. New boyfriend!
4. Cute beaded bag on sale maybe mid 90s? Just cause I liked it.
5. 40th birthday gift from DH for my red-themed party.
6. 40th birthday gift from sister for same. I like both.
7. I gave this one to DD2 when she was 16 to match some high red heels she badly wanted. She has given away the heels and didn’t want this ( she is 25 now). I kept it!
8. This one I bought about 2013 to match my “ball dress”.
9. This one I bought at a market in 2014 for Art Deco weekend.
10. This one is a Prada dupe in different colours, on sale from Ezibuy.
11. This is vintage from a vintage shop, I bought to match a vintage hat and vintage shoes for a wedding.
11. This was a gift to me from DD1’s future Vietnamese MIL in 2017. I haven’t met said MIL yet but I will. I’d like to use the clutch but it hardly fits anything! Have also seen it on websites and it’s made in China which I think is amusing.
13. Bought recently from Colette Hayman 30% off on sale.
14. Same. I think I will use the one with the “jewel” for my MOB outfit but hope to keep and use the other.
I bought 10 out of the 14, but one of those was for my DD.
They are shown on the backdrop of my pride and joy, my new duvet cover for winter. All for your viewing pleasure!

THANK YOU, JENNI. They are absolutely magnificent. Despite the fact that number 14 barely fits anything, the rich color and gorgeous design draw my eye like a magnet. It is certainly my favorite.

It is nice seeing the amount of red too. Red used to be signature color. I am missing that color from my current wardrobe. My next favorite is number 6!

My eyes devour bags. I could literally look at them all day long.

Special shout out to the vintage bag in number 1. Do you have the opportunity to use it much?

Agree with Sterling about your mom's bag. In fact that print got my heart racing and sent me spiraling into ebay to find one similar. If I ever found an item of clothing in that print I might wear it daily.
The attention to detail-even the frame-"back then" is phenomenal.

What a fun collection! Does your phone fit in all of them? I don't have a super big phone but it doesn't fit in some of my vintage bags.

For fun Jenni here are mine.

1 about 4 years old
2 vintage
3 vintage and in poor shape
4 1992 - only one I think is Dated
5 Xmas gift 2018
6 about 6 years old. Probably the most useful but strap showing wear.

Hi everyone.Answering questions:
Re how much I use any of them, they are just for special occasions. I love Mum’s vintage one and have definitely used it in the past few years the odd time, I tone it with outfits that have some of those flower colours in them. The Art Deco gold one gets used with any 1920s inspired outfits and so might the black one be as it is a similar shape and has hints of 1920s style to me (although bought new 2013).
Ophelia, I once saw another one same as Mum’s in a vintage shop here. I assume something similar may be around on the internet. The shop I saw it in has closed down. No brand inside it, sorry, so no more info.
Shevia, when I upgraded my IPhone last year I deliberately bought a smaller slightly earlier model similar to the size of my old 4S, to fit my small hand, so that was an SE which is a 6. It fits in all of them except the tiny red beaded one pic 6.

Well Sal I love your black vintage one, looks the same shape at the bottom as my gold one that I use for Art Deco type events. My second fave is your 1992 one, special-looking and interesting. I don’t care if they are “dated”, I wear them to hint at certain eras or styles.
I also like your other vintage one and the first black one which is beautiful for evening or weddings.
The other two including your Coach one are probably not my preference because they are plain even though smart and like Cardiff girl I am a happy little magpie!

I think I am a Magpie by nature, but for some reason, I always come home with the plain version of whatever I am buying. I wonder why that is?

Perhaps! There is the "real" me that is drawn to all things pretty and sparkly. And then there is the "sensible" me that was raised in a strict family and catholic grade schools.

I'd very much like to step out of the dual role with this wardrobe rebuild I am doing.

Sterling, I suspect your version would be a bag of luscious texture in a simple style. This could extend to clothing too. Classic lines in glam fabric.

I find the last two good for casual meals out - that’s why they get more use because I have more of them than dressy nights.

I love the ones you have chosen for the wedding- perfect with the dress and into the future. And maybe to hand on too.

Sterling - I don’t wear clutches for work or weekend errands, only really meals out or similar. I wonder if you could find one that appeals to you that is both practical and luxe. Soft leather in a gorgeous colour?

Yes Sally you are right about casual meals out. I have plenty of those too but am a bit lazy about them and just use my normal handbag!
