Clutch bags: If you only had one, what colour should it be?

Think my title says it all. I've noticed for a while now that I'm lacking a clutch bag / evening bag. I love huge shoulder bags but they're not the most appropriate and every time I have a dinner or a semi formal event I can never quite find the right bag.

So I decided it was time I get a proper evening clutch. But since clutches are not something I'd use everyday I don't really want to own more than one, and I want one that would match almost anything.

I realised I should probably have asked you lovely people at YLF first for advice, but instead I went online and bought a silver metallic clutch cos I thought it could match almost any dress in any colour.

It's not too late though. I still want your opinion on what colour you think would be best if you only had one clutch bag, and whether you think I should keep the one I bought or not...

I think silver is a great neutral for a clutch! I use my metallic one all the time! Love the detail on this one too!

I like the idea of silver! It will add a little shine, which is great for evening and, like you said, would go with almost anything. I like the texture on yours, too.

I only have one and it is a pewter silver metallic. Love your choice!

Yes, I agree that silver is a great, classy and versatile choice !!!! If I could have a second, I would go red patent.

Oh! Oh! This is something I was going to ask about too! I'm a shoe girl, not a bag girl, and I just had a conversation last week with my mom about clutch purses. She couldn't understand why I wanted one, but bringing my normal handbag to a nice evening out or a wedding just looks silly. This is embarrassing, but I only have the one handbag. I really like it, but it's not suitable for anything fancy.

I never thought of metallic. What a great idea! I really like yours, Sue. Now, where does one go to buy a nice clutch purse? A department store? We don't have fabulous department stores like Nordstrom in Canada. I'm prepared to spend a moderate amount. I don't want cheap, but I know that bags can get super-expensive, and I don't want to cut into my shoe budget too much.

Isabel - Ooh thanks for that! Yeah I think red patent as a second clutch sounds good. You've planted a seed in my head hahah. Now I'm gonna keep a lookout for great red patent clutches too.

Elisabeth - Yeah I so agree! My mum can't understand why I would want a clutch as well. Well you could try online? I have lots of shops and departmental stores where I'm from but I still went online to look for mine cos I was too lazy to get off my chair lol. Nordstrom sells online too, if you don't have a physical store to go to. Or you could try ebay; you often have to sift through lots of rubbish but sometimes you strike gold!

I actually use a white leather clutch for evening wear. I lost one at wedding and spent forever looking for a replacement.
