Clothing swap tonight!

A work friend is hosting a clothing swap - I am bringing wine and 3 bags of purged clothing. Another fun way to clean closet and maybe pick up something new to me. There are 5 of us around the same size. Wine, appetizers and lots of laughing on the agenda - if only I wasn't so exhausted from the 6 am schedule! Anyone else do clothing swap parties - besides Fabbers, of course?

No, but it sound like so much fun. I want to come for the wine and laughter. Are others not in your size range invited?

No the party is for a diverse group but fortunately there are at least two of everyone in a size range - otherwise awkward. But not as awkward as a size-limited invite! That would be hard to explain...

Ooh! Have fun! I have never done this. None of my in-person friends are anywhere near my size, strangely. Hmmm. I must rectify that!

Good luck!I haven't been to one yet but was talking to someone recently who occasionally organizes one. Hopefully I'll be able to go next time she puts one together. It sounds like lots of fun.

I have done a couple of them with my masters' swim team, a few years ago. It was a lot of fun. I can't think of any favorite clothing I came away with, though. Mostly I came away with items that others thought looked great on me, but I had no idea how to wear, and they ended up being purged a couple of seasons down the road! Still I'd do it again for the fun, and because it does give a good reason to gather up those donations. Someone would always volunteer to take our leftovers to charity afterward.

Sounds like fun! I've never been to one before, but it would certainly be a great way to both wardrobe edit, find a few new finds, and not have to spend a penny!

What do you do with any unwanted clothes? Take them to a charity shop/goodwill?

I'll be right over with a boatload of clothes and some stuffed mushrooms! Regarding planning, do you have small tote bags, like market bags, for people to transport their haul? What about clothing racks to display the items? Have fun!

For a couple of years I hosted a clothing swap as a little fundraiser for our local homeless shelter. In addition to bringing clothing and jewelry to swap, I asked everyone to bring some kind of financial donation to the shelter -- any amount. And if you made a financial donation you got 2 "save me" tickets. Everyone came and displayed all their items and we all walked around with wine and our tickets before the "store" opened, and you could place your ticket by anything you really wanted. And then the "store" opened at a set time and it was just a free for all. It was so much fun trying on stuff together. We raised a few hundred dollars for the shelter and just had a blast. Makes me want to do it again, actually.

I like viva's idea. Sounds like fun, and also gets us thinking about how lucky were are to have clothes to get rid of when so many don't.

Yes...did one of these that was a fundraiser for my kids' school. It was fun! Not sure I got anything that rocked my world, but it was cool to try out items that are very different from my usual style. I'm going back for the swap again in a few months. Enjoy!

I've never been to a clothing swap. I have, tho, pretty much stolen my neighbor's gyspy polka dot flamenco skirt, which she lent me for Halloween many years ago. How was yours?

They're going to be so happy to see you come in the door....... I'd sit right next to you, and offer to help you display your stuff (so I could see it first). Of course, it wouldn't fit. Sad.

A group I belong to once had an accessories swap ( not shoes though). It worked well because sizes didn't matter.

I got rid of all my stuff - mostly to others but all of our leftovers went to women's shelter. And I only picked up two items, both climbing gear related. So a big win! I am not that interested in adding new stuff to the closet right now anyway - I'm more about honing.

I encourage anyone who wants to do it to go ahead. We just displayed our stuff in various places - draped across couch or chairs or just on the floor. Pretty casual.:)

Fun! I donate all of my clothes to the school. They have a massive spring fair with a "thrift shop" of some really decent things. My coats/jackets go to the shelter. But I can see how fun this would be. Viva, your party sounds like it was fun too Una, glad you got rid of your stuff and didn't end up with too much stuff in return
