So I have been thinking about this project for a few years now, and I finally decided this week to just do it. It took me most of this week to do, which included a lot of staring into the closet and figuring out how to compensate for some mistakes and miscalculations, but I'm fairly pleased with the result so far. I think it will be better once I have purged some more things and tweaked the shoe and bag storage. A small rack on the floor for off-season shoes would help a lot.

  1. How it used to look
  2. After ripping everything out and marking where the new bits will go
  3. Putting in a million plasterboard anchors
  4. Left side after painting, etc.
  5. Right side after painting, etc.
  6. The extra garment rail is empty! Hallelujah!
  7. Once again crammed with stuff...
  8. And already a pile of stuff on the floor. Sigh.
The flooring still needs to be replaced but I haven't decided whether to use black and white vinyl or carpet that matches the bedroom. The hot water pipes near the floor would be nicer boxed in, too. I started to do this with some scrap wood but I messed up the cuts, so I will need to get some other materials for it.

So, it's not perfect: the shelves down the middle are a bit too wide, the shelf around the top is a bit too narrow, and it is still bursting. But I am able to fit a lot more things in here now, and importantly, I can actually see everything without having to take something else out.

What do you think?
