Jet lag means we are waking up early and getting sleepy early, and the weather has been a bit dreary since we have been home. So what better activity than some closet editing! LOL
I tackled a portion of my closet, including my holding zone, and ended up editing out three big bags of items, with likely more to go. Some things are due to wear and tear, some to fit issues, but most are just because I’ve tired of them or am not feeling them anymore. Most are in great condition for someone else to enjoy them, sothey’ll be consigned or donated.
Some random thoughts and impressions:
- I’m not feeling a lot of prints the way I have in the past. I’m being very, very careful purchasing printed items moving forward. I’m more drawn to classic plaids or stripes these days, and I still love certain abstract prints, but some of my florals, etc? I’m just not into them right now. I don’t know why that is, but I’m just taking note of it.
- My color palette is tight, but I like it that way. I’ve considered adding some brown to my wardrobe while it’s trending, but I need to ask myself why, or whether it will have longevity in my wardrobe. I did buy a long shearling vest in brown a couple of years ago, but now I don’t like the fit and am thinking of selling it. If it were short I’d keep it!
- I bought two pairs of really great pants from Me + Em during a sale a couple of months ago. They were borderline big on me then, but I missed the boat on an exchange window. Now they are easily a full size, almost more, too big, but I think they will hold up well with alteration. They are in my car to go to the tailor, along with a couple other items.
- I have a LOT of summer clothes. More than I’ve ever had before. I did the seasonal switch and my off-season storage hanging bag is stuffed. I think it’s safe to say that I’ve found summer style that works for me, and I know that part of my closet needs an edit, but it’s hard to think of trying on all my summer stuff now that the winter season is nearly here!
- I need to remember to review my out of season wardrobe before I shop for new things. I forgot that I bought a burgundy sweater last year, when burgundy was hard to find. So back in September this year, I bought two (one is a V neck in a very fine lightweight merino, that layers well under jackets, the other is a cropped crewneck, chunkier cotton blend, so two very different vibes) ! But here’s the thing — I like the new ones much better. I’m going to keep the older one too for now, but lesson learned. LOL
- I dug into the back of my lingerie drawer. Holy crap, I had slips in there I don’t even remember. Not to mention I can’t even recall when I last needed a slip. I edited out most of what I found there. Kept one half slip and two full slips, which were actually my mother’s — they fit well, are extremely well-made, and have beautiful details. Reminder to review those neglected corners of our wardrobes!
- Are moto jackets going to feel fresh again soon? I’m betting on yes and keeping mine. I pulled my old grey leather one out of the holding zone and am going to try styling it again.
Anyone else having closet editing adventures lately? I know I will be doing more — this was a good start but my closet has gotten a bit overwhelming and I know I need to do more work.
