Angie and others have gently coached me on dressing for my climate. This has been especially challenging for me because I am a native Minnesotan living in North Carolina. My fantasy life involves a ski chalet in Colorado. My brain seemed set to "winter clothes."

I have come to understand I actually live in the South. Who knew? Anyway, now that I have accepted that fact, I am actually shopping for my real climate (first time EVER!!!). This has been the funniest shopping season! Last year I discovered linen. This year I am trying new things .... like the pants below.

But some things never change. I also pinned the sweater .... for my "ski chalet" life.

Ooooh -- those linen drawstring pants are fabulous! So nice to have some summer bottoms that are not shorts. Kudos to you for buying clothes for your real life in the Southeast. But I do love the sweater you pinned. Cashmere is so cozy. Like you, my brain is set to "winter clothes" and I have considerable trouble dressing for the warmer months. And I want to cry when I put away my sweaters for the season. Even though I live in Connecticut, our recent winters have been too mild for cashmere. Like you, I think I need a mountain retreat.

Ha! I've lived in Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, Florida, DC, Texas, and back to GA. I STILL buy too many F/W items every year. My favorite clothes, my favorite seasons. My latest seasonally-inappropriate purchase was the wrap from Athleta below. The first thing I thought of when I put it on was that it belonged in your F/W cozy loungewear capsule. Not helping, am I? Can't help myself;-)

I really identify. Every winter I have to slap myself out of buying a new knit (sweater) dress. I love them but I have so many of them already and it is hardly ever cold enough to wear them. Yet still I have these visions of myself all booted and beanied up wearing my warm and cozy knit dress. Ski chalet life is right.

I really like the linen pants; they look so cool and comfy for warm summer temps!

I've always lived in Michigan (long, cold winters), and, unlike you, I'm always sad when it's time to put away warm-weather clothes. I love being able to step outside without a heavy sweater, coat, boots, hat, and mittens. I enjoy a greater variety of styles in warm weather--sleeveless, short sleeves, cropped pants, shorts, vee necks, skirts, and dresses. In winter I'm forever wearing turtlenecks/wool/heavy toppers/long sleeves/long pants just to stay warm.

Maybe we should trade locations!

Maybe you need a place in Maine. That's what my relatives who lived in North Carolina did. They eventually moved year-round to Maine.
The linen pants will be workhorses for you. I have a pair in white but have yet to figure out what looks best on top and still is cool on a hot day. Maybe Angie will do a summer ensemble with linen drawstring pants. (Please!).

Well, I'm going skiing lol. No really that's a beautiful pant. Maybe you could find a type of top like that in a silk material. Makes a world of difference in the heat and humidity.

Those linen pants are lovely. And I think Ledonna has a great suggestion re the top.

I sympathize about the climate woes. I have the opposite problem and like Windchime have to prevent myself from buying too much for the warmer months. Although lately I have decided, what the heck? The warm months are the only months I truly get to have fun with my fashion so if I wear each pair of sandals a little bit less, what's the difference?

Of course what counts as "warm" for me would be early spring for you.

I'm another Southerner who prefers winter clothes. Sigh. I do try to shop very practically for the heat and humidity, but even when I do well I don't feel quite the love I feel for my winter closet. I go for 8s instead of 10s because I'd never find enough 10s.

I live in Colorado, but only at 5000 feet, where we still have hot summers and no real dominant season. I'm right there with you on not wanting to buy for the warm months, though. I'll get on Pinterest to look for summer outfit ideas and end up browsing boots and cardigans.

Sterling you are really funny! Talk about seasonal confusion....:-) I have nothing to offer since I live in the northeast where we get NC-type weather only for a few weeks a year ("few" is highly variable between 3 and 6). Maybe you could ask some of your neighbors or others who are more used to your climate for some advice or let you see how they stock their wardrobe. I suppose you also need to consider how much time you spend indoors vs. outdoors....

I think maybe part of the issue is that the clothing you need in colder weather just feels better against the skin so it's more enticing. When it's hot and humid nothing feels good against the skin except the blast of an AC unit or some ice cubes. Linen is a good choice but I'm not sure it could ever feel as good next to the skin as a soft sweater.

I keep trying to soak up all the heat I can in summer and put it into some sort of memory bank in my brain so I can conjure it up in the dead of winter but that never works.

those linen pants are a favorite of a friend of mine. I may get a pair! she has the cropped version which you might like for your climate as well.

we lived in DeLand, Fla for ten years and I learned how to give up my clothing from the northwest for southern temps. I wore lotsa cotton and linen. I loved loose fitting white and light cotton tops. I never wore jeans unless maybe for two weeks in their "winter." When we came back to the northwest (Idaho), I had to buy a lot of clothes for 4 seasons. I liked the simplicity of dressing for southern temps, way easier on our budget with three children!

Great pants, Sterling! Very nice to have a breezy pair of linen pants. I like to wear mine with roomy tees or silk blouses tucked in, or breezy high-low tops left untucked. I also tend to pull the ties out of mine :}
