Hi Fabbers

Further to Angie's post today, are these clamdiggers? They are Benettons and were purchased around 2004. This pic is from 2012. I was on holiday, I now live here on the Black Sea. These have been worn ALOT although are now quite big as I am 7kgs lighter, I will still wear them with a belt. I thought they were bermudas, but not sure now.

What a nice place! You look fab and happy. I like the colour and print of the top paired with the denim. I would also call these bermudas but according to Angie's post they are clamdiggers.

I would say they are. And they look great on you! The rise might be a little low by modern standards - but you could disguise that with an untucked top if you wanted to.

Yes, I agree we called them bermudas. I also have a two pairs , bought a couple years ago and wear them mostly in my weekend house. Beautiful picture.

This could actually change my mind about that length. They look great and love the top with them. I would call them bermudas I guess but either one works.

I’d say more of a Bermuda, but clamdigger-lite! That’s how low rises used to be. You look great!

Angie, thank you! The low rise is the only thing I dislike about the bermudas.
RobinF, what a fab compliment! The top is even older than the bermudas, had even more wear and is still going strong.

Brooklyn, thank you! Yes, I only wear longer tops now to disguise the low-rise (which I hate), but love all the other aspects. I wear these a ton every summer, so comfy by the sea.

Sisi, thank you! It is a beautiful place, with a fascinating history (back 3000 years). The top is very cool in summer, it has been a favourite for many years.

I call above the knee bermudas, and below are called skimmers if they are just below the knee. There seem to be many names for all lengths longer than just below the knee to ankle--clamdiggers, the old name pedal pushers, various lengths of crops, some that roll up (these are hard to find these days) etc. Anyone remember that Clayton?? guy who told women all those pants ending on calves made us look awful Fat stumpy legs, old lady looks, etc.

Always trying, the nomenclature I’m familiar with is close to what you mentioned—Bermudas are close to but above the knees, clamdiggers and pedalpushers for slightly below the knee, probably with skits on the sides. I have never heard “Bermudas” used for below the knee, but maybe it’s different outside the USA.

FI and Alwaystrying, I also believed clamdiggers to be quite a bit below the knee and slim fit. The name implies rolling up your long pants to dig for clams. I think the difference being (maybe) is that capris are not necessarily slim fit, where clam diggers are. Mine do have little slits on the side although not visible in the pic. I remember the name pedal pushers - I think from the 50's and they had a revival in the 80's. Angie confirmed mine are more bermudas which I thought, so all good. Some definitely are not that flattering when they end mid-calf, although if paired with a strappy espadrille with a slight wedge could make all the difference (for me). Thank you for chiming in.

I maybe would have called them bermudas too, but they *are* verging on clam diggers. They’re cute tho, whatever they’re called!

Clamdigger-lite! That's a good call, Angie. I was also thinking they were a little less tapered than the clamdiggers Angie showed. In any case, I really like them on you, and I like them with the top. Maybe you can find another pair to fit your new size.

Thank you everyone for the compliments. I have been wearing these bermudas every summer for a long time even though they have not been trendy, they are just so comfortable and don't bare as much as shorts, which suits me. I have been thinking they should be on their way out and never actually knew if they look good or not. So even though they a bit big now, they do work with a belt I am going to keep them in rotation for this summer. The denim has no stretch but has become super soft from lots of wearing and washing.
